For those who have been to DP before, what are discussions usually about? How do people usually begin their interactions and do people bring up sex, swap or soft swap pretty easily?

Most people will say hello and, perhaps, make a comment about your tattoo, your jewellery, your bathing suit, your white skin so you must be newbies, the drinks you are ordering while standing at the bar, etc., just something to break the ice.
Could also be that they will just come up and ask if you have been to Desire. Typical social, generic conversation to perhaps let you know that they have noticed you and may want to get to know you better.
We have found that it's pretty easy to meet and talk with others and most people are open to some sort of banter with folks they haven't met.
As for talking about swinging, it can come up fairly quickly in conversation after the initial icebreaker as to where you and they are in the lifestyle.
We usually fit fairly early into the conversation where we stand in the lifestyle and let the others' make the choice as to whether or not they are interested. No hard feelings if we aren't all on the same page.
Yes, conversation comes pretty easily at Desire. Even for us 'introverts' .

Exactly as miranda2 said small talk to break the ice and then it either leads to a pleasant vanilla conversation or if they are a interested in getting to know you better they will inquire about your lifestyle preferences . A pretty common question is "So what brings you to Desire?" and that's your opportunity to share what your looking for on your trip.
Conversation is pretty easy and open there.

Don't know what the problem is about meeting and talking to others. What is wrong with saying "Hi we are..............and we are from........... What brings you to Desire"
Most people respond with an answer and you are talking to some new friends. If some don't want to talk well then its their problem and not someone that you would want to spend time with any way. There are to many nice people at Desire to be upset over a very few up tight people. So just say Hi and rest is history.

Mr. here. In my normal life I don't make chit chat easily. One might even say I'm "reserved". At Desire I talk to anyone and everyone. Something happens when you are there that just makes you want to meet people. Mrs. can talk to anyone, here or there. A simple introduction is often all it takes.

Barebuns, you're absolutely right....I think joining the Yahoo Group for your month on arrival is a large help. There you can often see pictures of the people you will be vacationing with and have a chance to talk via computer and break the ice before the trip.....As a mater of fact, Barebuns was the first people that came up to talk to us. We were laying on the quiet end of the pool on a bed and you came up and said Tammy and David, nice to finally meet you.....From that point on all the edginess was gone....

I have to agree with this also. I'm usually pretty closed and reserved at work or around home. Dont talk much to neighbors and such. When we went to Desire last year, my wife kept laughing at me how easily I talked to people and made conversations. From a guy who wont hang out with neighbors, to being naked in a hot tub at Desire, its like I get to lead a entirely different life. 201 days until I hit paradise again. Like a kid waiting on Disney.

We remember that morning Davetamm. Meeting nice people is one of the best things about a Desire trip. Yahoo Groups, this forum or whatever way you choose to connect before a trip is a great icebreaker!

What do people talk about? Anything from sex, to politics, to kids, the economy, you name it. Normal people having normal everyday conversations. Just naked while conversing.

Sometimes OK I lied pretty much all the time it's pretty hard to stay focused
that's part of the fun it's always great conversation and if the conversations not good there's another couple seated to your left or to your right to talk with.

great thread, first is that Miranda was spot on, be clear where you stand early on, not in you face fast but soon. then the rest of the world topics opens up. frankly, this is one of the best things about both of these resorts. about seven years ago we went to secret silver sands for seven days and talked to NO ONE. seriously. At RM our first time it was wonderful. within the first few hours we had talked to so many wonderful people. we met some folks from Paris that were a blast. after two days you know most people enough to say hi. go without expectations and a smile. say hi. Swing or not, you will enjoy the stories, i am a big fan of people and what they have to say and have experienced in their lives. be ready for folks to be very open about where on the spectrum they are and adult openness plus be ready to get into all sorts of open conversations about the world, universe and the meaning of life.
enjoy

We chatted about everything - maybe you should write these down if you need some starters...
families, kids, work, why we are here, what we want to get out of our visit, spa services, drinks we like, the boobs on that woman over there, that guy over there that looks just like Sam Elliot (no kidding...wifey wanted to go jump him), cars, boats, airplanes (met a couple that were both 767 Captains that live an hour from us), beetle kill in B.C, Broncos football, salmon fishing, the worst blowjob I ever had was wonderful, look at the boobs on her, my god he's hung like a horse, have you had sex on the cabanas yet, how do you feel about body shots, how did you two meet, what are you wearing tonight to the disco, want to see the view from our balcony, what's the best dinner you've had here, where was your favorite vacation, would you come here again, how do you and your partner set limits, when you cum do you scream or groan, you have a nice (fill in the blank), my wife and I find you unusually attractive.
Hope this helps! Really...just be open and friendly...it will all cum, er come, very naturally.

As I have said in an earlier post just be friendly and you will be talking up a storm in no time. On our first trip to DLC years ago we had just check in striped down and went to the pool not meeting anyone but staff yet. As I was getting into the pool a group of people sitting there started talking to us and we had a wonderful week being with the group as well as well as with many other people. There are no strangers in my wife's life just friends that she has yet to meet, so with her being so friendly we are talking to many people in no time. So be friendly and outgoing and soon you will talking to so many people that you will need to take a rest from talking.
I would say that 95% of the people at Desire will be willing to talk with you after meeting you.
