So we are thinking in attending Pearl during a take over (Jan 2017), it sounds fun but also busy. We consider ourselves Lifestyle selective, more on the soft swapping, but all situations, couples and fun times can change that...

Would you recommend attending Pearl during a takeover or any other time would be better?

Just to clarify - there are NO takeovers at Desire Pearl or Desire RM during January - January at both resorts is designated as ISM
There may be small groups going during that month but definitely no takeovers

FYI - a takeover is when a group or a TA books the entire resort and the only way that you can go when they have their booking is to book thru that group since they own all the rooms for that period of time.

So some groups may call it a takeover in their advertising to bump up the wow factor - but in reality it's just another group booking

If you are able to book directly with the resort(or thru your own TA) for the same time as the group, then it's just block booking( ie x number of rooms) for the group(ie not a takeover).

FYI - the typical size of block bookings for most small groups is between 20 to 30 rooms

There was a large group booking (30 rooms or so) when we were at Pearl last month. Nice enough people I'm sure, but I'd say they it was a fairly closed group. They came together to party together. 30 or so rooms is a large part of the resort when there's only about 80 rooms in total, and there will likely be events that cater to just that group, even if technically you can also participate.

So I'd advise against going when there is a big group booked like that. We felt a bit peripheral while they were there.

I'd like to know this, too. I was on the Pearl website in March on the chat and asked Ana about the dates I was considering. I'm not sure how much she knew but she said "it seems to be only individual reservations... no groups..." when in fact there was the group I noted above. Might have to do with how the rooms were booked, but I think this is very valid question.

You could try the group/event calendar, not sure how up to date it is.
