Tape Art Theme Night

We're headed back to Pearl for NYE this year, and we'll be there for the first week of January. Does anyone have recommendations on how to do the "tape art" theme night? I've seen it done before, but I am clueless on execution. Looks like a lot of work. Just go naked with a roll of electrical tape in our hands?

Theres an image in the theme night forum of a woman in her electrical tape outfit. I't pretty sure thats what they are looking for but yeah it looks like its going to be a lot of work and might take some practice nights with a couple bottles of wine to figure it out. And heres hoping that tape doesn't give anyone a rash! I can just imagine that happening and looking hilarious for the rest of week!

The rash has been known to happen. For us, way too much prep, not worth the effort. Basically all that I've seen essentially look the same, I find the other other themes far sexier and better displays of creativity. Also, and what's the guy supposed to do for tape night anyway, especially if there is hair involved, I'm guessing tape night would only drive down the participation.

There is a short discussion on this under the forum regarding information on both Desire Properties. Its under the title 2017 themes. The short answer to your question is yes, it can be a lot of work if you really want to do a creative design.

This is what we posted:

My wife did a version of the black tape project for a theme night at RM this past May. She had already designed it and had the pieces cut. She used multi-colored tape. She actually did the design on a female mannequin (the kind they have at clothing stores). She was able to apply most of it herself except on her back side which I gladly volunteered to assist with. She didn't have any problems with the adhesive but had tested it at home first to make sure. People thought it looked really good." For traveling purposes the pre-cut pieces of tape were put on a type of paper that allowed them to be taken off while preserving the adhesive quality. The theme night was "anything but clothes"

If you want to practice, I suggest you get a couple of rolls of 3M Super 33+ and try it out, it has better adhesion and less likely to cause skin irritation and leave no residue on you. Also, works very well around the house as needed. I can give you some pointers on use!

We were at Pearl when they did a "Black Tape Project" night, and a brief workshop by the pool. They recommended using good quality electrical tape (see above), and taking the tape off in a hot/warm shower.

I've done this a few times for my wife, with surprising success each time, and learned a few simple tricks to make it easy.
1. Use an eyeliner pencil to draw out where you want to tape. Easy to erase and you can see your design.
2. Use a fabric measuring tape to get the length of electrical tape for each piece.
3. Keep it symmetrical. do to one side the same as other
4. Compliment the female form. example, done use horizontal lines...elongate the body....see google for examples
5. Go to a craft store and pickup simple little shapes in colors to stick on the tape to highlight it......
enjoy the process. Took me about 1.5 hours the first time, and it looked ok. took me 45 mins each of the other times and they looked great and it was quite enjoyable and easy......

I just picked up some electrical tape on Amazon in 2" and 3/8" widths, for about $6 each. Standard tape is 3/4", so those 3 will give us some variety. Depending on the design, some wider tape in spots could make the construction go faster. They had rolls up to 4" wide, which might look good for applique cutouts (thinking flowers and hearts, etc).

We're yet to make our practice run, but I did put one piece of the 2" tape on my forearm to test. After a few minutes, it started to peel at the corners, so I have two things I want to try next time:

- Try not to stretch the tape too much, since it wants to shrink back. If stretching is required, try to wrap around the body so the end of the tape ends up on a previous layer. Tape sticks best to itself.
- If you must end the tape on the skin, round the corners of the cut end, so they don't peel back as easily.

I've looked a lot online for a tutorial, and came up with nothing. I'd appreciate it if anyone else would share what they've learned here.

We bought some bondage tape, which is supposed to stick to itself but not to skin.

Not sure how it will work out, but it should be fun to try once (or twice, or three times ) at home to figure something else.

Otherwise it will be a <Insert your own theme night here> kind of evening. Neon night here we come!

This morning, I did my monthly blood donation. When I finished, they asked what color wrap I wanted for my arm ..... there were at least 7 or 8 choices (many neon). Wearing a lime green shirt today, I chose the same color for the wrap. Bam! ..... Perhaps a great option or near alternative for this year's tape theme. The self- adhesive wrap (Coban is a popular brand) is readily available at medical supply stores and by internet sites. Easy on, easy off and I might guess it would be great fun ... and it's very affordable. I am anxious to chat this with Mrs Tommer when she gets home ..... I think an order is in line. Hmmmm ...... I can see some interesting unwrapping at the disco! Thoughts?

We bought a bunch of latex body paint (Black, white, and purple) and are going to use that inplace of the tape.

Hopefully it works to our advantage as I can work a paint roller vs a brush. LOL.
