Pool Lounger Question

Postby Play_Dough » Mon Jul 17, 2017 7:55 pm

I had heard from friends that were there earlier this year that the loungers on the louder side/sunny side of the pool were reserved for members only and they couldn't get a lounger around the pool. They were empty and still they couldn't sit in them because they were non members. Is this still the situation?

nope. that is crazy talk. Wake up early and ask Victor or G for some seats. Some are reserved... but not all. u should not have any issues.

Thanks. I did hear it from a couple of friends. Both are early risers so they should have had no issues. One couple had been there many times and had no issues prior years but this year they said they couldn't get one even. That was the last time there for them because of the loungers. The other couple were new to the resort and were really turned off by it they said they most likely wouldn't return either.

We went in June, and there was only one day that we were unable to get a lounger beside the pool, on the active end. We didn't head to the pool until about 11am each morning. Yes, there were several seats that had reserved signs on them, but we didn't really have issues getting one. The last couple of days we chose to set up in the circular lounge beds, which we also enjoyed.

We were just at DP last week. There were plenty of pool chairs. Sometimes we'd get the chairs ourselves but usually Victor took care of things for us.

During our March visit (first timer), it was the same as what folks are saying. Wake early and secure a bed with Victor or yourself and a bag/magazine etc

You might consider introducing yourself, tip well and say we are here for 'x' number of days and would he set us up with some chairs first thing??? Have heard that works well.

Lastly, while we found chairs most of the time, the busy weekend hit and the members took up most of the noisy end chairs. However, we were still able to share those chairs with people we met which was very fun. So go meet folks, tip the staff, wake early, and if all else fails, drink and float near the bar where there are benches and stools. All good stuff!

There are certain times of the year and certain fully-booked weekends when you will have a hard time getting a chair on the "fun" side of the pool (we were there 4th of July and it was packed). Every time we arrive to Pearl we tip Victor and G $20 each. From that point forward, they arrange chairs for us every day of our visit. They're great guys, and a little tip can go a long way.

Quick question..are the beds hard to get? And are there enough umbrellas for shade? Dont want to burn to a crisp and we do enjoy frolicking on the beds:)

Getting beds by the pool is "relatively" easy since they are down at the quiet end. Getting beds by the hot tub is a little tougher during prime time so it depends on when you get there.

Getting umbrellas by the pool is touch and go. There are a couple of dynamics in play. First, you have to get the loungers themselves, which can be hit or miss. Then, it's which direction are they facing. Then, it's getting umbrellas since there aren't necessarily umbrellas for every lounger. And finally, it's keeping the umbrellas shading your lounger and not taking it away from the people next to you.

My wife is very fair and we both need to carefully watch our sun exposure so getting shade at the pool is very important for us. It's really the only thing we stress about at Desire.

Best suggestion is to get up early and find and tip Victor and he will do the best he can.

Or become members and it's much easier presumably.

My wife is also very fair skinned and this is also the only thing we worry about at Desire :)

This is one of the main reasons we're a quiet side couple. We like the bed and the increased cover it gives. We also like to pick and choose when we're social and active, so it's good to have our safe and quiet home base :)

I will say they are very good with arranging the umbrellas, just let them know if you want one or not.

Will someone please explain a little more about the "fun" vs "quite" side and what the difference is (other than the obvious fun vs quite). I see comments like that a lot but don't have a feel for what to expect. We've been to a lot of all inclusive Mexican resorts but this is first time at Desire. First time CO too. Normally, I would scan pictures and get a pretty good feel of pool layout but there aren't many here understandably. Any help is appreciated. Ken

The fun pool has a swim up bar, they play basketball volleyball etc, music, sexy couples contest, water exercise. Quiet pool is just a pool and normally that one is also cooler temp as it’s not heated like the fun pool. They are connected somewhat, they have a wall you can climb over between them.

It’s one big pool with a divider in the middle. One side is supposed to be heated differently. The quiet side is just farther away from the activities.
