When it comes to money for a 5 night stay...does it make more sense to bring American money for tipping? What does the staff value more? How about in town? If we go on an excursion? Yeah, we're newbies. Thanks...

USD is fine for everything. Don't bother converting your money.

Up to you really, we always hit the ATM for pesos.....it's the local currency and easy to deal with for me. USD is fine though as TandD suggests!

All I can say is no one ever seemed disappointed when I tipped in them in $USD. I try to avoid using an ATM in a foreign country, as well as non bank located ones in the US.

I got my local bank to convert a few hundred dollars into pesos to take with me.

I would not bother with converting cash. We never have. In fact, the staff probably would rather USD!

We have seen people get $2 bills for tipping. Cool idea. And a little unique so the bartenders remember you.

If I remember on our last trip to Mexico when ever we brought something in a store any change was given in pesos. We were told that Mexican law requires that. When we returned home we used the pesos to tip at the airport at LAX since pesos are useless in Hawaii. The banks don't even know what to do with them unlike currency from Asia.
