Headed back to DP next week... any new news on alcohol issues? We were thinking about taking our own tequila and vodka for a few drinks during the day - and not having quite as much from the bar. How much can we take into Mexico?

Unless you want specific brands that Desire doesn't provide no need to BYOB(s)

FYI - You can bring in up to 3 liters per person

We brought a bottle of Black Barrel in and the bartenders and other guests loved it. Great ice breaker, literally.

The alcohol is safe to drink if that’s your concern. The only reason we would bring alcohol is if we were going to have a party in the room and wanted a bar. However, I would just stop on the way from the airport.

We always pick up a few bottles at the Cancun airport to keep in the room.

For the first time ever, we saw 2 bottles behind the bar labelled with people's names which they brought with them. Daniel, the awesome bartender, told us they brought them because they were concerned - they weren't even top shelf stuff. We've never had a problem but we do bring our own wines because we love good wine and can't bring ourselves to pay $200 for a $40 bottle. In our experience, all the alcohol has been totally safe.

There is an additional cost to order a bottle of wine for dinner at the restaurants versus by the glass?

If you order anything other than the house wine, you pay for sure. You can have as much of the house wine as you want - problem for us is, we're kind of really into wine so we get pulled into the wine list every time even though we swear we won't do it again!

Great thread and a topic I have been wondering about. We're wine snobs as well. If we want to bring our own wine so we know we'll be drinking what we want, is that okay?

We usually take 6-8 bottles of good red wine with us to enjoy at dinner. So yes, you can bring your own. During the day we usually drink the house white or sparkling wines and find them to be of acceptable quality for our palates.
