First time to Pearl, questions....

We're first-timers to Pearl who normally go to RM. We're interested in trying something new. Tell us why you like Pearl or why you like Pearl over RM. For those who go in late July/early August, is the resort pretty full and lively that time of year? We're mid-40s/early 50s but of course young at heart.

Does room category matter? We love ocean-front at RM and it almost looks like all rooms are ocean-front at Pearl?

Thanks to all!

Hot tub at pearl way better than RM. No climbing stairs and room to enjoy.

We like the feel of Pearl much better than RM. The resort itself is much nicer than RM, at least in our opinion. The room category we always get is the master suite because it has 2 full bathrooms for when we are getting ready in the evening and also has a completely separate living area which comes in handy in the morning when my husband wakes up before me he can shut the bedroom door and go out through the living room to get his coffee and go sit on the beach or one of the 2 patios off our room. Also all the rooms are basically the same size by category, at RM we have stayed in a garden view room that was the size of a postage stamp that cost the same as another one that was 5xs bigger. The rooms at Pearl are all equal. We also like the jacuzzi better at Pearl, it is much bigger and on the ground floor. The disco is also on the ground level, walking up stairs in high heels after drinking all day can be challenging at RM to say the least. We love the staff at Pearl, they always know what we want to drink and always make sure we have drinks at all times.

The one thing we like better at RM is more choices for restaurants.

We have tried both, and we would always go with Pearl. To us it just feels like a much friendlier place and not as clicky as RM. At RM we found it very difficult to mix and mingle with others.

At Pearl it was easy to mix with others no matter what the nationality, and overall people seemed to be less loud and talked at a more natural, sensual volume.

As said already, it's much prettier at Pearl, staff are fantastic and the rooms are great. I think we stayed in the postage stamp room at RM, it was ridiculously small and the only outside space, or the patio, was actually the path that people walked along.

We would never stay at RM again, Pearl just feels right.

Thank you all for your responses! This helps us make our decision and affirms our thoughts based on the photos we've seen. We have made so many friends at RM, if Pearl is even friendlier we'll have a blast!

Now just to choose dates...

FWIW - If I where you, I'd suggest that you avoid Aug 6 to 11th - when the Dirty Vibes Music Fest is on at Pearl

You know, I saw that, did some research and definitely do not want to go that week. We're looking at Aug 17-24, plenty of time for the dirty vibes to clear out ;) . Thank you for the heads up!

At Pearl not all rooms are created equal..

If you want ocean view stay away from the master with plunge pool. There are only 5 of them, 2 with great views, 2 are great rooms if you do not care about view or noise or any chance of a breeze.. The 5th we have not stayed in and believe it over looks the Jacuzzi. At RM they make the separation between garden and ocean for the Jacuzzi rooms which they compare the master with plunge to, it would be nice if they did the same at Pearl..

A few other items not mentioned that we like, - Pearl is opening a new Asian and Hibachi restaurant this May, it will be on the 2nd floor next to the ocean front. If you want an ocean view do not get a grd floor. Most rooms do offer some level of ocean view. Pool is much bigger and loungers are not as crowded as RM. Playmakers station is up front by the pool not behind loungers and out of sight. enjoy

We have heard from others for years, and it's also been our experience with many visits to both resorts - Pearl is nicer, RM is more of a party. Food variety at RM is better. Hot tub is MUCH better at Pearl. Both pools are nice - if you value having a quiet end of the pool, then Pearl is for you. We don't hang out in the quiet end, so that is of no value to us. Pool bartenders at Pearl seem to be more attentive than those at RM. Counter to a previous post, we prefer the disco at RM over Pearl. At RM, it's off the courtyard/bar area and that is the evening social hub (along with the hot tub). At Pearl, the disco clears out (mostly) by 1130. Entertainment staff leaves by 11 or 1105 like clockwork every night. In our opinion, the playroom at RM is nicer than Pearl, but neither have seen a lot of use while we have been there (like 20 visits total).

We were looking at the master suite without the plunge pool. We absolutely love falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the surf. Any room or building number suggestions are appreciated!

We hadn't been to RM in a few years until this past February and we were amazed at how many loungers they are now cramming into the pool area. And thank you, we didn't realize Suki would be finished so soon!

We are looking forward to the larger pool, sometimes we love a crowd and other times we prefer our alone time. And we will be putting the playroom to use, just as we did at RM :bj ;) . We're not party-all-night kind of people except for every once in a while, and we are early risers. So the disco winding down by midnight isn't a huge deal for us. Thank you for your input, it definitely helps!

What are the 2 plunge pools that have the great view-if you happen to know the numbers? And what is the 5th that you haven’t stayed in? We are booked for a PP room as that is what we have for our membership free rooms, but this is our first time to Pearl, so it would be nice to be able to request a room number (wishful thinking for advance check in)!

Thanks so much!
