No Covid Worries - June 23 - 29, 2021

We just got back from our 7th trip to Desire. Our first trip since Covid hit and it was so nice to not have the Covid worries that still exist in everyday life. Spending most of out days completely outside and with what we are guessing was a high percentage of vaccinated individuals made life wonderful!

We are members and use our free nights to book. Harder and harder to book in the Master Suite with Plunge Pool rooms. In fact, we had to reserve 3 nights without the plunge and 3 nights with. We asked to be on the waitlist for the Plunge Pool when we reserved 6 months ago but were told each time we checked there were no openings. Of course, when we arrived we learned they had the room we wanted 2 additional nights. It, of course, was not as easy as it should have been to use these nights but eventually we were given the room we wanted for 5 of the 6 nights we were there. We actually got Room 78 which in our opinion is the absolute best Master Suite with Plunge Pool.

The first day we got there the beach was absolutely horrible. In fact, for most of the day we were the only people on the beach due to the large amount of seaweed that washed up and the strong wind. While a barrier is installed to prevent the weeds from washing up, we think the recent storm was just too much. While we were there a crew installed a fence near the beach on both sides of the barrier so weeds could not enter along the sides.

We didn't hit the jacuzzi as much as we expected. I guess we were busy enjoying other parts of the resort. That being said, the jacuzzi crowd seemed quite active and the one afternoon we headed over there we were lucky to get the last bed. 10 beds all filled providing sights and sounds for all. Good times!

Meals were all very good. We ate at all three restaurants and also ate dinner in the Mansion one night. In order of preference we would say Suki was certainly the best followed by Aphrodite, Pearl and then the Mansion. We did expect more out of the Mansion meal but were not impressed with the menu offerings and the cook did not come out to work with us on food allergy issues. On the other hand, the entire team at Suki blew us away both times we ate there. Nicolas (Nico) is the cook and went out to his way to check in about allergies and create a meal that worked well for us each time. Our last night we planned to eat at Aphrodite and were going to splurge and pay for Lobster or Crab. We were incredibly disappointed to learn they were out of both. Certainly not the end of the world, but we had looked forward to the treat all week only to be disappointed. Breakfast and lunch buffets were good. Lunch menu that you can order off of is smaller but the cook was still able to make things that fell off the menu from last year to this year - example - fajitas - so good! Desserts at lunch seemed to be dominated by flan type deserts - not our favorite but since vanilla ice cream was there almost everyday we were happy!!

Evening shows were very good. Music in the nightclub was hard to dance to most nights - and - trust us - we need all the help we can get in that area. We wonder if anyone really needs the music that loud, but I guess that is just how it is always going to be,

PDA seemed a bit more out there than in past years. Not a complaint - just an observation. The beds at the quiet end of the pool got quite a workout in the evening. We used to wonder why people play there instead of the jacuzzi but after experimenting there ourselves we loved hearing the surf and feeling the breeze off the ocean. An experience to repeat for sure.

All in all we feel fortunate to have spent another week in paradise. Now the countdown from 365 begins again. So sad to wait a whole year but great to have something to look forward to.

Great report! That's too bad about the lobster; we are hoping to order lobster as well for our trip to DRM in a few weeks. And I wish the seaweed would just go away! It's so unpleasant and I always feel bad for the workers who have to shovel it all up.

Glad you had a good trip overall and hopefully your next trip arrives quickly.
