First Timers Trip report - July 2021

Postby Johnwal » Wed Aug 11, 2021 7:34 am

This forum became my go to for information leading up to our Pearl trip in July 2021, it helped us so much to make our trip so much easier and less stressful and I always said that I would pay forward by giving any info that may be helpful to other newbies. We were first timers in every way, we weren't in the lifestyle and had never been to a Desire resort although we had been to clothing optional beaches, which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were open to any fun that may have come our way and we felt confident in ourselves having been married some time and having talked and talked about rules and what sort of experience we may want. We also were prepared for just enjoying ourselves together and if that had happened it would still have been a wonderful trip. The trip was booked for my Wife's 40th birthday ( I'm in my 50's) and was the first holiday that I have been allowed to organise by myself :o We were also travelling from the UK, so a slightly different perspective due to minor differences in cultures and language :)

Rather than tell you everything we did, I'm just going to give what I think are the important points for a newbie. There are so many great posts on here describing restaurants, rooms, facilities etc that I don't need to repeat them. So here goes:

Arrival - for your first time this can be a nerve racking experience, even for the most confident. The check in process and meeting 'Mariana' put us slightly at ease and the champagne helped ( we arrived on a Saturday at 1130am). We politely refused the presentation although we did say that we may change our minds ( especially if you feel the need for a massage etc..as you get a discount), the refusal was accepted graciously so don't worry about saying no, but also there's no harm in sitting in on one if you want the discounts.

We were directed to the Spa wearing our bright yellow wrist bands ( very proud of that now and wish we could have them again next time) where we changed and put our things in a locker. Our bags had been taken away and our room would be ready mid afternoon. We changed and put sun lotion on and stood there looking at each other thinking 'Oh my god we're here...gulp'. We walked to the pool which was busy and found Horacio the pool guy to find us loungers, which he did ( tip him, and mention how long you're staying, by the Monday he had found us beds that we would keep all week - we tipped him a few times and on leaving for looking after us - if you're not a member then its worth it).

We immediately had our first interaction form other guests asking us about our trip and introducing themselves and then chatted a while before stripping off and getting in the pool to go to the bar. After ordering a drink ( and sticking a couple of dollars in the tip jar) we chatted and looked around where we saw other yellow bands. I said hello and asked about their trip and before we knew it we had spoken to half a dozen couples and hours had past.

I want to make this clear regarding the Yellow Bands that you get for being newbies: People suggest that other couples will see you as ' Fresh meat' and so approach you for that reason, well if that is true then we never saw it. People at pearl in our experience, are just lovely lovely people that love talking and meeting people and every one made us feel at home and relaxed. the question of the lifestyle never came up in conversation unless we mentioned it, people didn't care. We spoke to more people on our first day than we do in a week at home and more than we've ever spoken to anyone on a European vacation ( or holiday....see I picked up the lingo  ) If you're not in the lifestyle, it doesn't matter, no one is there to change your mind or put pressure on you.

Foam Party - was an hour of absolute joy and fun. Foam and urmmm...big inflatable balls! great music and everyone just being like children for an hour. Don't miss it.

Restaurants- The breakfast and lunch restaurant ( Aphrodite) is very relaxed, decent choice but does get repetitive by the end of 7 days but there is a great pizza guy outside that looked after my wife's allergies and that we knew we could trust, there's also a few days where they grill chicken and steak etc but to be fair lunch was ok. Dinner choices are better. Aphrodite where men can wear dress shorts and is a little more relaxed and is served from a menu which is quite limited but enough to get you by for a few evenings a week. Aphrodite doesn't need a booking so its the go to if you didn't book a table ( more in a minute). Suki is the Asian restaurant, great food and still relaxed enough to allow dress shorts with a shirt. Pearl really is the 'Pearl' of the resort. Chef Kau cooks wonderful food and is seen a lot on the restaurant floor serving your food. Beware though book an early table because pearl doesn't move quickly and you may be left rushing to get to the theme nights. Also dress up for it.

You need to book Pearl and Suki early in the day, after breakfast is often too late especially if one of the restaurants is closed ( both close for one night). I made a habit of getting up at breakfast then going down to the pool to tell Horacio we needed a lounger then popping into Aphrodite to book our restaurant. After that I would go to the lovely coffee shop at the lobby to get the wife and myself a coffee and take it back to the room to have before we got up for breakfast.

The rooms are lovely, we had a Junior suite ( no 86) which was the furthest away from everything but still within a 3 minute walk of everywhere. It was quiet and overlooked the Caribbean , we heard the waves lapping throughout the night and day, beautiful. The downside is that the beach is still covered in sargassum and it can smell on somedays. They really do work hard on it but are fighting a losing battle, soul destroying for them ( remember these guys aren't getting tips for that). Next time we'll get an Ocean View room, we just didn't spend enough time in it for it to be worth the extra expense. They are well kept and cleaned and stocked up daily. We tipped the guy who looked after us in the middle of the week.

We didn't use the Spa although we did go back and book the presentation to get the erotic massage cheaper. However.... as we had a wonderful experience during the week we cancelled ! we didn't feel as though we needed it ! it was like a back up plan but we had experienced better. Others did do it and said it was excellent and a couple of people we knew bought memberships at the presentation although it just wouldn't be worth it for us in the UK, hence no need to go for that reason.

HOT Tub - oh the Hot tub ! the first half of the week was incredible in there, starting from about 4 everyone left and moved into it, it was hard to drag yourself out then but the fun started later after the disco, for the first half of the week everything happened there. Riotous at times but always sexy and fun, the beds were often full with everything you could imagine going on. It would have been rude not to have tried one so we had our first experience on one with other people around. It was so so incredible having sex when there were people on the next bed doing the same and you knew you were being watched! amazing experience. The bubbles where also a lot of fun. The second half of the week quietened down a little and the water got cooler also, despite people complaining it never did warm up so I think people left a little earlier. We were often in there until 2am, again you talk to so many people, we laughed like we hadn't laughed for a long time. If your newbies, don't be afraid to give the beds a go, nobody stares to make you feel uncomfortable, nobody claps and whoops, people are respecting of others - you soon forget what's happening on the beds after a while, especially if your company is good.

What else? well we probably didn't spend 10 minutes a day on our sun lounger, we were in the pool talking most of the day. Theme nights were fun, most people dressed up for most themes. People go for dinner, maybe meet in the lobby bar for a drink then go and get changed into outfits before returning to the lobby bar about 9.30pm. You then move into the disco for the entertainment which was excellent and shouldn't be missed ( queue early to get a good seat but you can stand by the bar and see everything with no issue). After the entertainment the disco starts, we only ever stayed for three or four tunes before going straight back to the hot tub, some nights in the disco are better than others. There are slots to put clothes in at the hot tub and towels available for after if required.

The playmakers are wonderful although we didn't do a lot of activities, if you want to get involved you can but if you don't there's no pressure. Such a shame they have to wear masks all the time, looking forward to seeing them properly next year.

Bunny night at the mansion before the entertainment was fun. They held a casino night that lasts for an hour, free chips, just a little fun. Out of context, I'm not sure if it was YUNI or one of the other playmakers had a paddle and was spanking some  my wife seemed to like it even if she had sunburn after snorkelling! Not for me I'm afraid, Funnily enough she enjoyed the can of nine tails later in the week also  I can see new toys being delivered.

So our first trip to Pearl and our advice to newbies: be a part of the fun, don't be scared to talk to people and make the first approach if need be. Don't be scared about people talking to you. Don't worry about saying NO to anything or anyone! Tip when you want to, don't follow the crowd and don't feel pressured to. Don't overspend on rooms, you really don't spend that much time in it. Make love everywhere...hot tub, balcony, hot tub beds. Don't forget to book a restaurant in the morning early if you want to eat at Suki or Pearl. Get involved in the theme nights and ladies if you worry about dressing too sexy, then up the ante still further and you'll be fine !

Pearl is a wonderful, sexy fun place like no other we have been too. That is why people go back time after time. The staff are Incredible and can not do enough for you, really wonderful people and the surroundings just lead to fun. We weren't in the lifestyle before we went, we experienced it and now I can say we are. If this is what lifestyle people are like then I'll happily be part of it. I made more friends in a week than I have at home  from all over the States, beautiful, honest fun people to be around. Yes once we had to have a conversation to establish a line in the sand but if you keep talking then it will be fine. We experienced everything that we had ever dreamed about at pearl, all in safe beautiful surroundings. We hope you will too!

PS: my first time organising our vacation alone.......she said I did good 8)

Great report! Newbie revelation reports are always the best. It's fun when yet another couple reenforces how fun, non-threatening, and wonderful the place is.

Glad you enjoyed it!
