Trip Report: Celebrating the 4th, 2022 in the new rooms

Postby tj71903 » Thu Jul 07, 2022 9:08 am

We spent our third straight Independence Day celebration at Pearl. Our first came in 2020 when we found the resort and this represented our 22nd or 23rd trip since that initial encounter with the resort. In that time we've seen a lot of good, bad, and the everything in between with the vast majority being in the good to great column.

Being able to visit as much and as often as we have, we've grown quite familiar with the resort and can appreciate the changes we've seen as it continues to make efforts to consistently move forward and improve. Improvement is actually a nice theme for this trip report because...

We had booked into a swim up mansion room for this trip and were thrilled to arrive at the airport on time (thanks, Delta) and to get the bags in less than an hour (adjust your expectations all ye who enter CUN). We walked out and were greeted by the USA Transfer rep who had our reservations and we were immediately taken to the SUV (a marked improvement over some previous times where we were left waiting for a bit in the zoo of the taxi area). 30 minutes later and we're back at Pearl.

As I said we had booked into a swim up and were hoping for our favorite one of those, but were told at check in that they were very sorry but that room was not available yet. Ok, we said we'll just head to the spa and change and find lunch or go to the pool or something. But that too was not an option. The butler and the staff and the guest services manager asked us if we wanted to tour the new mansion rooms they had built and that had just been completed. Of course we said yes. So we walked over to the building and there's several housekeepers, some front of the house staff and similar who welcomed us to the new rooms. We walk in, excited to see everything and are stopped at the door for a quick photoshoot of the wife cutting the ribbon on the new building.

Cool, marketing. I get it.

We then walk into the room and tour it. It's very similar to the mansion already in existence though it's ocean front. HUGE bed, two bathrooms, living room with bar and top shelf liquors and wine fully stocked. Large shower. Beautiful lighting and finishes everywhere. And, the unexpected addition of our luggage being already put away into the closet and a message written in flower petals on the bed "Welcome home".

Turns out, we are going to be the first guests to stay in the new rooms. Surprise!

After this is conveyed, we toast the staff there with the champagne and share hugs all around and then after a tour they ask us to provide feedback of anything with the room and depart. So we unpack and prepare for the latest trip the high points being thus:

FOOD

We ate at Pearl the first night with manager David welcoming us back and helping us get settled. They already know the type of champagne the lady likes and ask if she would like her customary bottle on ice (yes, please). Orlando and Gilberto help us with the menu and making sure all is in order. Without seeming overly high maintenance, our preference is not to linger at dinner when at Pearl. We like the menu (especially the lasagna), but don't need dinner to be a 90 plus minute marathon. Too much else to do and so we politely ask that there not be an extended period between courses. Honestly we don't really eat a ton of big meals when there, so usually a salad and a main course is sufficient. They accommodated this and we were out within 45 minutes having enjoyed the meal.

Two more nights we dined with friends at the mansion restaurant and enjoyed the spread. On both nights chef Marco made a trip over the mansion and not only welcomed our guests to the dining room, he prepared a delicious meal including an off the menu dessert he and the lady came up with (for context, I love apple pie...well, Marco came up with a take on it that's basically an apple pie baked into a burrito with the proper amount of apples, cinnamon, and all the goodness. Delicious. We also had some sort of stuffed chicken breast while others in the party enjoyed fettuccine with shrimp, tortilla soup, and a few other dishes. All perfectly cooked.

During the resort's 4th of July celebration we participated in the outdoor event with the same group and enjoyed it. Marco and his team put on quite a lovely spread that included everything from fresh caught fish, ribeyes, whole chickens, grilled veggies, fresh shrimp, etc, etc. To serve that many people at that level was impressive for sure.

Lunches, if we ate them, were in the mansion where the team came up with BLT sandwiches that were terrific and light along with homemade boneless chicken wings with some sort of spicy BBQ sauce. Breakfast every day at Aphrodite where the spread is the same as it always is.

Only other meals were snacks that always seemed to be waiting in the room when we returned from the pool or similar.

SPA

As part of the membership we are able to do massages each trip and while we used to do the erotic massages here and there, for the last few months we've gone back to the relaxing, deep tissue, and similar. This time we went with deep tissue and hot stone. They aren't sexy for a write up, but I remain adamant that if you want the best technicians for the traditional or erotic options, then you want the team of Eloida and Itza. Period. They can run the full spectrum of light to forceful depending on which treatments you're looking for.

DAILY ACTIVITIES

The new playmaker team that is in place is really good. After a lot of turnover during the last year the group of Kia, Candice, Will, Chris, Shirley, Bella, and Carla is full of energy and they all really complement one another in terms of personalities and strengths. What they also bring is an increasingly seamless experience for the guests as they learn each other and one another.

There are some changes here and there with the daily schedule. With the pier being finished the morning yoga is conducted at the end or in the pool on inflatable yoga platforms (hard topped). Morning volleyball on the beach was a lot of fun and well attended. The days we were there it as always at least 5 on 5 and usually 6 on 6. Following that we'd head back to the pool for various sporting competitions (basketball, water polo, 'touchdown', and the passing game). In general these are fun though it is wholly dependent on the crowd. The touchdown game is going to get someone injured and did as a lady who was doing her best "look at me" routine ended up kicking one guy in the face due to a lack of coordination and, I guess, motor skills. I suggested maybe changing the rules on that one. Water polo was a lot of fun as was basketball.

As noted the playmakers have a really good energy around them and ran the daily slew of games and trivia before breaking for lunch. After the break they'd come back and do another similar kind of thing before heading to either pool or beach volleyball. The wife would generally go for pool (I can't stand it if it's more than 6 aside) and I'd go for beach which was competitive and well attended.

Following those last games most retired to the hot tub for the afternoon, but we generally used this time to head to the room and enjoy some down time before getting ready for dinner. Given the new room we had a chance to sit in the hot tub and watch the ocean or enjoy the brand new HVAC system which worked like a charm!

At night following dinner they had the usual shows up front and then the disco show followed by dancing and then the hot tub at night. The lobby shows were really good and we enjoyed the theme nights as always. On Friday we invited Ingrid to the room for body painting for us and some friends and then to neon night. Saturday was Latin night and then lingerie and such for Sunday. Monday was the 4th of July which was a Top Gun theme. We got a lot of pics with that via the motorcycle, the face cutout board, etc. Really nicely themed though it was interesting to see an outsider's perspective of what America is in today's world (though I'm thankful they thought of us as a military power and not a picture of senility and incompetence ... so maybe there's hope for us yet). The last night was Rock Stars and Movie Stars which was a lot of fun though with our friends departing on Tuesday morning we showed up and bailed early on that night, though I did get to dress as a baseball player so that was fun.

The in-disco shows were very good and the DJ change is noticeable as the mixes are fresh and updated. The crowd this time was far more active on the dance floor and there appeared to be a line to get into the disco each night before the shows. Looked crowded as they poured in.

Following the nightly activities we ended up at the hot tub a few times and had a blast with friends. We went channel surfing a few times, laughing and cutting up as the various channels (read beds) had various programming. Depending on the night's happenings we either stayed out until around 1:30 or 2 or ended up breaking into the mansion playroom and sticking around until the same time. Again, lots of laughs and fun.

THE ROOM

As noted above it's absolutely beautiful. The location is great (away from the hot tub which is always our preference) and even though the seaweed is there, the view of the pier is lovely. The two bathrooms are great and that bed is HUGE. Maybe a double king? You can sprawl out and touch nobody. The bar is stocked with top shelf liquors ranging from whisky to tequila to gin to rum. We hosted three couples and were never crowded in or outside. There are some finishing touches that are being installed (little things) and we look forward to seeing the progress when we return in a few weeks and again for Labor Day to see the progress there.

One side note, the internet in that room is terrific. Did a speed test and had 285 down. That's about 8-10 times as fast as it is usually.

EXTRA EXPERIENCE

We had another chance to shoot with Provoke and really enjoyed the experience. This was the second video session we've done and we really, really had a blast. Started at 10 with hair and makeup and wrapped around 4 PM or so. Did a video for us and some promotional things as well. After getting some shots in the room we took over the disco and spent hours playing with lights, smoke, wardrobe, etc. The raw footage was gun and once we finish the cinematic and editing I can't wait to see the final product.

Again, if you're considering working with Provoke I highly suggest you take the plunge. For me it's not about the outcome (though those are always incredibly sexy), it's about the process and bringing it all together. We had all kinds of fun with that this time as we always do.

If you want to book, I suggest you reach out to the COMPANY to discuss what you want to do and accomplish and to get some really good information about what the process looks like. Their website is easy to find and Maya, the marketing head is really great in coordinating all the details from photographer to location to time.

Overall it was another wonderful trip and one of our best to date. We enjoyed meeting several new people from all over the world and from all manner of backgrounds. We enjoyed learning about the upcoming improvements to the resort and experiencing those that are now online. Can't wait for next month.

Great report! Thank you for all the details and updates.

Just wondering..how many ocean view rooms are available in the mansion? When we were there last time they were still under construction.
How is the price compared to the rest of the other mansion rooms that don't have any ocean view?

Just two rooms. One on each story.

No idea on price honestly, but it’s part of our contract so fixed for us.

Where exactly are these located? Are they next to the Sea Star building?

The only picture we could find of it online makes it look like they renovated and added on to the building where the Diving office was?

It’s the building the playmaker used to be housed in. They gutted it and made four rooms into two large ones (one on each level). It connects to the dive shop.
