I always enjoy reading trip reports, and I try to provide a trip report every time we go.
Our first time to Desire was in 2012, and we have gone to RM 8 times. We are not members and have never had plans for that type of investment. We always loved going to RM, the mix of party and laid back was perfect for us. Our Last trip to RM was right when Eden opened, and we thought that Eden killed the vibe. To many “Influencers” flaunting their expensive bikini’s and frat bro’s in board shorts. It reminded us more of South Beach than our intimate fun clothing optional resort. I am sure the addition has been successful; it just wasn’t for us. We left saying that it will be the last time we go to a Desire resort.
It has been a few years, and we decided to try Pearl. Even though we had friends that were going to RM the same week, we knew we did not want to go there. I have to say that Pearl really gave us the same vibe as the old RM. We really enjoyed our experience and would go back again.
The Good:
- The guests are amazing! We did not encounter any of the cliques like we did at the new RM. Everyone was super friendly. If you are going, I would encourage you to join the Telegram group for the month you are going. It is great to meet before you arrive.
- The laid-back atmosphere. While we did get hit up for massages, that was really the only upselling that we experienced. Also, it was only once a day. It seemed like at RM we were constantly bombarded with people pestering you.
- Nudity. I would say 99% of the people at the resort were either nude or topless. People really embraced the concept.
- No Camera’s. When we were at RM it seemed like one end of the new pool was nothing but people shooting tik tok video’s and Instagram pics. We don’t need to accidentally show up in some influencers video. It was great that none of that was going on at Pearl.
- The space for shows was great. Open air, very much reminded us of the space they used to do shows at RM. Lots of room, no roofs and light fixtures to deal with. The entertainment was enjoyable. Before the shows the area is very conducive to meeting friends and make new ones.
- Hot tub is great. You can sit down without ripping your feet and ass on a rough surface. Lots of room, but it has enough choke points where people gather, and it gives you the opportunity to meet new people.
- Service is outstanding. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you are having a good time.
- Restaurants. We are not members, never made a reservation and we were able to get in any place we wanted no problems.
- Pool Chairs: We were unable to get chairs by the pool at Eden until later in the morning because we were not members even if we over tipped. We never had a problem at Pearl. We gave the pool attendant a tip the first day and he took care of us for the entire trip.
- Rooms: Overall, I think the rooms are nicer than the older side of RM. You definitely, have more counter space in the bathroom. That being said there really was not that big of a difference.
The Bad:
- We felt the variety of food was not nearly as good as RM, even before the new restaurants were opened. The quality of the food was good, just not a lot of variety.
- Seaweed: In some places the Seaweed was 2 feet high on the beach. They had one poor guy out racking it every day. It seems like they could get a Bobcat to come down the beach and scoop it up in a couple of hours.
- Switching out beverages: They switched out Dos Equis for Modelo and while we were there, they switched out Coke for Pepsi. I asked one of the bartenders why they did it, he said they are doing it to save money.
- Disco: One thing we did like about RM was the disco, it seemed like it was busy and was busy longer. At Pearl, the disco was busy later one night when they had a show inside it, other than that one night, most people went to the hot tub.
- Playroom: The playroom is tiny and off the disco (That very few people go to) so it was never used. We were invited to go to the Mansion playroom, it was very nice. But you needed to go in with someone that was staying in the Mansion
- The grounds are much more dense, not as open and grassy as RM. We were walking down a path to the pool and a big snake went right by us. My wife was not happy at all about that.
- Room location. We had a rough 2025, so we really wanted a quiet experience. When we were checking in (at 8:30am), we asked for a room on the quiet side. They said they could upgrade us for an additional $100 a night and put us there, we declined. We hung out at the pool all day and went up at 5pm to get our room, and the sliding door of our room was literally the closest door to where the DJ’s speakers and playmakers were. It was fine, but it did seem like they were “Punishing” us for not upgrading.
Overall, we loved our experience at Peal. It had intimacy, the people and the service that we loved at RM and were sorry to see it go. We will definitely come back.
