Real Time Trip Report - April 8 /'12

We arrived a few a hours ago. Our room was not ready, however we arrived much earlier than expected. While we waited for our room, we went and enjoyed a tasty lunch. Up to this point, the staff has been amazingly helpful and courteous. Shortly after we finished lunch, our room was ready.

When we first arrived, we were welcomed, checked in and were taken through a quick resort overview. This is our first time to a Desire Resort and it was very helpful to take a moment to review the basics. One of the things emphasized is there is no pressure or expectation to do anything but have a good time during your stay. What that good time consists of is completely up to the couple.

We quickly found out drinks are poured freely here. Before we walked away from lunch, we each had about 4 drinks and were enjoying ourselves. It is time to take a quick nap to recover from travel and to be ready for the evening activities. We did turn on the TV while we laid in bed to take a nap, and found the reception for some channels was scrambled. For those wondering, there are some adult channels as well. More to come later.

Hi! We are arriving on the 18th and wondered what types of alcohol they have there. Brands of beer? The other Desire only had Dos Equis "special" (green bottle) If you had any of the mixed drinks do they taste good or a little like powdered mixer? Did you have mini bottles or full bottles of anything in your room? Any brands of Tequilla or Rum stand out? Oh... how is the hot tub...warm yet???

We only saw Dos Equis as well. The mixed drinks tasted just fine - better as the day wore on!!

The Hot Tub was officially hot before we left...there is a fridge in the room that was restocked every day - or every time you call to tell them they did not do it...but it only has cans of beer, soda and water. No liquor...

Nearing the end of our first full day and a nice day it has been. We ate breakfast with a couple that we met the night previous in the jacuzzi. The food was good. We had an omelet and a serving of Muesli. We had not had it before, but it was delicious.

We checked out the available tours and are considering going to Xcaret for a day and the Desire catamaran another day for our off resort activities. As always, everyone is very helpful and courteous. After that we had a quick lunch and changed rooms (more on that later). For the afternoon, we sat out in the sun on the beach reading. It is really great as there are plenty of chairs available.

Next we walked on the beach south for bit to see what was there. Lots of condos and what appeared to be a small town. After that we hit our room for 5-hour energy's and then proceed to head to Desire Rivera Maya. All in all it took an hour and a half to walk there. When we arrived, we did not feel as welcome as we do at Pearl. Not sure why that is, but based on our experience we feel Pearl is much more hospitable. Maybe it was just a bad time during the day. We ate there, similar food but tasty as expected. We walked the grounds, no one was in the pool, there were a few at the outdoor bar. We then headed up to the Jacuzzi tower and found lots of people and lots of activity. All and all, we think we prefer Pearl at this point. More low key more open space and the big jacuzzi which is really nice so you can be more or less alone with your mate or spend time with another couple or group. This is our style. If you like jammed packed and lots of activity, Riviera Maya is the place to be. It was wall to wall people and all sorts of pleasures taking place.

We took a taxi back to Pearl and now we are getting ready for more evening activity. The previous night was a blast and we were able to enjoy some jacuzzi pleasures and many drinks. We may go to the disco as well.

About the room change. We did not have a Wifi signal in our room so the staff and manager were able to put us in a room with a good signal. This is the type of service we have come to expect from the staff here at Desire Pearl. To this point, we would highly recommend this resort.

As mentioned, it seems Desire Rivera Maya maintains a higher sexual pace. That is not to say you can't have just a much fun at Pearl. It really is what you make of it.

We are going in late June. Wondering if they have beach beds, beds around the juccuzzi and a play room at the disco.

Colorado Couple, we met few couples that were actually re-booked at Pearl because of an over booking situation. Some had been to Desire Riviera Maya in the past and others had not. In either case, everyone was very pleased with their experience at Pearl. The only complaint I had heard was the availability of certain types of food/meals was not the same as Desire Rivera Maya. This will surely be remedied in the near future.

One thing to note about a previous post and the level of activity here at Pearl. This was a very slow week for them. Occupancy was very low. In fact they are shuttling all Pearl residents back and forth at no cost to Rivera Maya for evening activities. We participated last night at Desire Riviera Maya last night. It was rockin' and quite a contrast to Pearl. I have no doubt however, with a full crowd Pearl will be very similar.

I can't say enough good things about the staff here. They go out of there way to get you what you need. We had an opportunity the night before last to spend an evening on the jacuzzi beds. We were the only ones on the resort since everyone else went to the other resort for the evening. The bartender knew we wanted some privacy, so he rounded up the staff and let them know to provide us privacy for a bit.

I believe next week there will be a group at Pearl. It would be my guess that it will be much busier and the disco will be very active when compared to the 2nd week since the grand opening.

They have beach beds, pool beds, jacuzzi beds and lots and lots of chairs. It seems many more than Riviera Maya. They have fewer rooms and it would seem getting a bed or chair would be much easier at Pearl in the future. There is a supposed to be a playroom at the disco, however we will try confirm that tonight.

We spent some time at the jacuzzi tower last night at Riviera Maya. It is a very different layout from the Pearl jacuzzi. Each provides plenty of ways to enjoy yourself.

One other thing. We spent the last two days in the spa here at Pearl. Amazing staff as expected. We had a massage the day before yesterday which was very very relaxing. Then we asked if we could use the Sauna. They allow women into the men's locker which maintains a sauna, steam room (with mint smell), jacuzzi, a swiss shower, more showers and a chaise to relax on. So off we went and enjoy each other as much as a couple could enjoy each other. We enjoyed it so much, we went back the next day laid down some towels and gave erotic massages to one another in the sauna. Our bodies were slippery, wet and sweaty which was a great recipe for us at the time. We proceeded to use the other amenities and eventually left the spa with big smiles on our faces.
