This forum helped us in preparing for our trip so I thought we should write some thoughts to help others either planning or deciding if to go to Desire. I am not going to do a day by day travel blog because we were there for 2 weeks and we would bore you!
Short version to start with.
We had a fantastic trip, the resort is exceptionally good and high quality, food was fantastic, staff brilliant, rooms delightful, pool great, hot tub sexy, other guests fabulous. Basically a great trip, we will return and would recommend the place to anyone, it was first class and we loved it.
Longer version
Check in - Easy & efficient, nice iced towels and champagne as a welcome. Invited to meet someone about the membership/timeshare but it was low key.
Room
We booked a standard room but upgraded to a Master Suite with Plunge Pool (Room 9) which was excellent, a large lounge area, two bathrooms, our own 2/4 person plunge pool, etc, you can read the spec, we loved it.
Room was clean and was kept clean every day, no complaints at all. Our pool was cleaned every day and always looked inviting.
Food - Aphrodite for breakfast, lunch and dinner and Pearl for dinner only.
A typical breakfast buffet but very good quality and the ability to order from a menu too. Lots of fresh fruit, continental meat & cheese, cereals & yoghurts and about 8-10 hot dishes every day and not always the same. Omelettes made to order, eggs Benedict, eggs any style all cooked fresh for you. Pancakes & waffles made fresh. 4 fresh juices (try the green juice it is excellent) fresh coffee, variety teas, mimosas, etc. just what you might expect from an upmarket hotel, it did not disappoint.
Lunch -In Aphrodite, again buffet style. Salads, cold meats, fish, chicken, various hot dishes. Lots of variety so we were never bored despite staying 2 weeks!
When occupation in the resort is higher the buffet is also supplemented by an outdoor grill just outside the restaurant, in fact you can eat in from the buffet and have fresh meat and fish grilled to order and delivered to your table. Fabulous!
Dinner - A la carte at both restaurants. We preferred Pearl but both were excellent. Good variety, themed menus (Italian, Mediterranean, French, Mexican, etc) very fresh ingredients, beautifully presented and tasting great. We are seasoned travellers and also get to eat out on business regularly, we are well accustomed to Michelin Star eating and high end hotels all over the world and we were very impressed by the food. Even the house wine was pretty good which was a surprise.
Drink
There's something for everyone! Dirty banana, Long Island Iced Tea, Frozen Mohito, Vodka with anything, Bohemia dark beer and of course tequila and good stuff too, plus whatever you want! The alcohol is not watered down as has been suggested elsewhere, I watched bottle after bottle of branded spirits being opened in front of me and heard that unmistakable sound of the perforations ripping. All perfectly unadulterated!
Staff
Servers, cleaners, bar staff - Excellent. Interested, keen, competent, eager to please and smiling. Couldn't fault them. Get to know them and talk to them and they look after you even better and remember your preferences etc. Edgar in the Pearl restaurant was a star, on our last might he told us to leave the menu to him and he would provide our meal, amazing job and a top employee!
Entertainment staff - Energetic, funny, enthusiastic, just brilliant. Jess should have a pay rise, my wife wants to take Marco home, Anna is a bundle of energy and brilliant dancer and Koko a bundle of talents (sommelier, linguist, blogger & writer) Charlie is a foundation there and holds it all together. This place works because of these people, this place would not work half as well without their enthusiasm making the poolside so much fun.
Management & butlers - helpful, keen but not too intrusive, just what we needed when we needed it. My wife set them a birthday challenge which I'll write about later and boy did they live up to it!
Pool staff - Jared and Victor - they work VERY hard, are really nice people and ensured we had exactly the right beds EVERY day. I brought two air bed floatees and asked Jared if he had a pump I could use to inflate them, "leave it to me he said". 20 minutes later he had still not returned and then I saw him blowing them up manually as the pump had gone missing, he didn't need to do that and probably wouldn't have even mentioned he'd done it himself had I not spotted him. First class and just another example of staff making the difference and not just for tips. Jared and Victor are brilliant.
Entertainment
Pool volleyball, Basketball, Aerobics, beach volleyball and other games all good. Music OK by the pool but repetitive after 14 days, DJ's need to work harder. Foam party, brilliant, just make sure you go!
Plus kinky darts, pole dancing lessons, salsa dancing, yoga, beer pong, casino in the pool....lots of things to do, or watch, or just ignore, your choice, there’s no pressure to participate.
In the evenings there was entertainment in the lobby bar and/or disco every night. It did not last long but was well worth watching, we saw some acts twice and were not disappointed.
Themes - some women went to town and most made an effort to dress to the theme each night. Whatever your preconceptions about what is appropriate to wear, the answer is anything, there is nothing too risqué regardless of your physique and we saw everything from almost nude, see through, backless, frontless, topless & bottomless to nothing other than an electrical tape outfit! All looked very sexy. Guys were more conservative but most made some effort and again some fully participated.
Disco - great on the first night and good on the second but by the third we were bored with the music; it was just the same every night. There are lots of posts on these forums about the music and it really is the only thing I can point at and say it was not good enough. Please get some variety in the sets and don't just play the same things every night! Other that that the disco was great but we preferred to go back to the Jacuzzi/Hot tub soon after the entertainment was over.
Spa & Gym
Gym is basic but fit for purpose, we asked them open early due to our body clock time difference and they happily obliged at 5am! They called security and unlocked it and let us in to use the facilities, it took 2 minutes! another example of first class service.
Spa
We had 3 massages. The first was a regular couple's massage and it was great. We were laid next to each other and whilst I got a fantastic deep tissue massage my wife's would be described as more "all over", I'm sure she could have directed his hands away if she wanted but she didn't and so had a very enjoyable experience.
The second was the Erotic Massage and to be honest we were disappointed. It was too formulaic and it felt too staged. Yes it was hot, yes we both received direct stimulation which was nice but we completed the job ourselves.
We had separate room massages for the 3rd.
For men, if you want to get "touched" book the Erotic/Sensual Massages, otherwise expect a good massage. For women, let your body language guide your male masseur and you are sure to have a special massage! For couples, just book massages in the same room and follow the advice above, if you both want to participate then I think the ‘Sensual’ is the best option.
Pool
I know that it is a clothing optional resort but I just don't get why you would want to go there and not get naked or at least topless. Most people are naked but it takes a couple of days for some to gather the courage, then when they have done it they wonder what all the fuss was about. My advice, just get naked immediately you get to the pool and if you don't like it then put your clothes back on immediately or the next day.
Swim up bar is great and the staff fantastic, Israel & Irving in particular and Ebe who takes orders round the pool, lovely smile, lovely person.
The pool itself is large enough and even with 92% occupancy for part of our stay did not feel overcrowded. There is a real quiet end and noisy end. Noisy is near the bar so go the other side if you want more peace and quiet.
Hot tub
A voyeur's paradise, an exhibitionist's paradise, a very sexy place to hang out and talk, touch and be touched. Body shots? just go for it. We chatted with lots of people, made friends with some and had fun with some too. We are NOT "lifestylers", we don't like being labelled and we are not interested in notches on the bed post. We are sexually adventurous, caring yet carefree people who enjoyed some erotic experiences. We saw others who did nothing but watch and some where it was hard to work out day-to-day who the couples were! To each their own, we had a great time with each other and our new found friends. Desire really is what you want to make it.
Membership/Time share
The initial conversation takes only a few minutes and you get a book of vouchers. 20% off in the shop, 2 free room service deliveries, free trip to the other resort (Desire RM), 20% off jewellery, $150 off a sensual massage or $200 off an erotic one, plus discounts off trips. In my opinion, well worth the bother, we used several vouchers. The pitch itself takes longer and is more high pressure but there are some interesting offers, we just couldn't make the numbers work for us so said "no" and that was fine.
Desire RM
We went over there with two other couples ($20 each way in a cab and our voucher above) and didn't like it, I would have hated to have paid $150 to go. It is smaller than Pearl, not as sophisticated, we didn't like the pool or beach. The Disco was fine but we didn't even make the hot tub. The lobby area is nice but that was its only redeeming feature for us. I understand Pearl is more expensive but in our opinion if feels better, higher quality and less seedy. Glad we went, we will not book RM in the future but will return to Pearl. If you are 25, on a budget and want a frat party it might be more for you but it did nothing for us. We are not exactly shy, nor old, we only slept for 4-5 hours most nights but our partying felt much more seductive at Pearl!
Other thoughts
Penthouse - we did see one of them and the terrace and pool are excellent, lots of room in both and because they are top floor, less bothered by mosquitoes. Plus they have the added advantage of having a beach cabana specifically for each room; this means that you can sit by the pool for all the partying and then if you want a break or a sleep go to the cabana where it is quieter and cooler with a sea breeze. We would have benefitted from this after the partying excesses! However the cost difference is steep and our room was very good, like many things it is a value judgement.
Sin Room - we looked in but only for 2 seconds and it was empty. Never felt the need to go in again, we did our partying in rooms and at the hot tub.
My birthday treat - The hotel has strippers on every other Thursday night, we missed them as this was the night we went to the other resort. With the aid of Paloma - Guest Services Manager, my wife organised for them to do a private viewing in our room at 9 pm after dinner. When I left the room at 730 all was normal, when we got back at 9 it had been transformed, red bulbs in the lights, petals on the floor leading to the bed, 2 huge swans made from towels and petals on the bed. To the left of the bed a love swing hanging from the ceiling and to the right a Kama Sutra bed and fresh towels. Wow! A knock at the door and a male and female dressed as New York City cops came in to arrest me! I've never been so pleased to see law enforcement! Thanks to the hotel staff who were brilliant, this is just another example of them going the extra mile and Paloma in particular and the butlers Carlos, Evaristo and Jerry. We had a great night but missed meeting some friends in the hot tub which was a real shame, sorry N&S, next time! By lunchtime the next day the whole room was back to normal. Brilliant service.
Mosquitoes - they are around for sure and we did get bitten but only when we forgot our spray. The hotel sends out a guy every evening with a blower machine that sprays a chemical to get rid of them, it doesn't smell bad to us and it sure helps. For the uninitiated amongst us (and for those reading this piece that we spent time with
) this is called a DEMIDGIFIER 
and is a vital tool in the fight against midgies or mosquitoes!! As it is now our quest to have this word admitted to an official dictionary we'd appreciate if you use it liberally!Lobby area is too hot, get some air-conditioning in please Desire, before our next trip?
Lifestyle - We met people who were, some who weren't and some that weren't sure! We never felt under any pressure nor did we feel that people didn't want to engage with us just because we are not swingers. It was actually an irrelevance and we met some great people which leads me on to...
Friends - You know who you are! Thank you for making our first trip to Desire so special. We hope to stay in touch with you and, you never know, meet up again somewhere in the world!
Other stuff
Porn channels worked.
Room fridge has beer, water, coke and diet coke it in but you can ask for something specific (they stocked dark beer for me)
Ages - obviously varies from week to week, in the two weeks we were there saw from mid 20's to late 60's average was early 40's I'd guess but hard to tell. We met a friend who claimed to be 62 and we think he was 10 years younger!
WI-FI - had no problem anywhere on the resort with my iPad and iPhone, in room, reception pool, restaurants, perfect everywhere, almost full signal all the time.
Clothes - Women less is more. Nothing is too minimalist anywhere as long as you are dressed. Sheer, mesh, cutaway, short, backless, etc all acceptable. Dress as sexy as you possibly dare....and then a bit more daring...and you will fit in fine, especially after dinner in the disco. Most women tended to have two outfits for the evening, dinner - sexy, naughty, raunchy & sophisticated and afterwards, rude, nude, exotic & erotic for the club. Oh actually, 3 outfits, birthday suit for the hot tub!
Men- be smart and sophisticated and leave the sneakers/trainers for the gym!
Conclusion
Desire Pearl is a fantastic resort; it is sexy & sensual, erotically charged and fun. It is sophisticated, classy and refined. The property is of a very good standard, the staff is excellent, the food is magnificent and the whole place just works. If you read the website and like what you see then book a trip, you'll get exactly what it says on the tin!
We loved the people we met, we loved the place and the whole experience and without doubt we will return, we can't wait. Score…..11/10!
