Live Report - Aug 16-23. 2014 - 4th Desire, 1st Pearl

This thread is not only a really great trip report, but funny as hell!!

This reminds us of the time the Mrs here got followed around by a creepy grandpa in the jacuzzi at Pearl and he kept trying to stick his member against her every chance he got!

Sound EXACTLY like the guy who prompted us to open this can of worms...

Day 5 - got up too late for breakfast, so we started the day with lunch at Aphrodite. They're doing construction upstairs from the restaurant and there was a lot of construction noise. To combat this, they had the music in the restaurant turned up extra loud. CGMcDT and his wife were dining at a nearby table. He somehow managed to keep his pants on throughout the meal, so I guess that's a bonus. As we were exploring the always-interesting dessert options, the construction crew punched a hole in the ceiling, causing a sudden influx of water from above and sending the restaurant manager into a frenzy. We got up and retreated to the beach.

Spent some time enjoying the beach bed. Realized we hadn't applied sunscreen and ran back to the room to do so. On the way back to our beach bed, we detoured down the pier to have a look around. It's quite lovely in the palapa at the end of the pier. There's a nice breeze and the water all around. I would say they should put a bar out there, but then it might get crowded and be less lovely.

After more time on the beach, we came back to the room for a late afternoon nap. We got up around 6:30 and got dressed for "Italian" night at Pearl. Once again, many of the menu items seemed to be carried over from Il Piacere at RM. Fun surprises in the dinner food included risotto that was basically rice with olive oil and a cannoli for dessert that was pastry dough stuffed with Nutella fluff. It didn't even resemble a cannoli, but my was it tasty!

Back to the room to change for Sexy Bunnies night. Mrs and Muffin were both looking quite lovely, though Muffin was also looking a bit sleepy. We went to the lobby bar, said hello to Ana, our favorite on the entertainment staff, had a couple drinks and then Muffin decided to head back for an early bedtime. Mr and Mrs watched the sexy bunny contest (Colombia narrowly edged out Canada) and dance until the disco was almost empty (roughly 30 minutes... why don't people at Pearl like the disco?).

We went back to the room to abandon our clothes and proceeded to check the beach, the loungers by the pool, and the loungers in the pool off our naughty checklist. We cooled off in the shallow part of the hot tub and wondered why so many people were taking up space on the hot tub beds but not actually doing anything. At about 2AM, we stumbled back into bed.

arriving Sept. 7 por us......is repelant necesary right know ?

Yes! We went September last year and there were millions of the blighters! Always take spray with 50% DEET. We had been in Cancun the day before, no mosquitos, so didn't use spray the first night, got eaten alive!

There are some Mosquitos, but not a lot. We've each gotten a handful of bites over the week, but we haven't been using any insect repellant, so we have no one to blame but ourselves.

Sitting on the beach where there's a constant breeze or sitting under the fans in the lobby tends to keep the little buggers away.

We found best for mosquitos were the deet wipes. Doesn't interfere with liquids restriction for carry-on and works well

Day 6 - Got up. Breakfast at Aphrodite. No sign of Creepy Grandpa McDrop-Trow. Migrate to beach bed and get told by our lovely Canadian beach neighbor (you know, the one with the absolutely magnificent boobs) that she uses us to tell time because we keep such a regular schedule.

Muffin spent all morning getting spa treatments and joined us on the beach early in the afternoon. At 3:00, Mrs headed off to the photographer's desk in the lobby for her photo shoot with Muffin tagging along. Mr went back to the room to escape the sun, have some room service, and read his very dirty book.

Around 5:30, the photo shoot ended. At 6:00, Mr reported to the spa for his second 25-minute relaxing massage. Veronica gave Mr a good massage earlier in the week and was also Muffin's masseuse for her morning session. However, she wasn't available for Mr's evening massage, so - after confirming to the guy running the desk at the spa that he wouldn't be too weirded out by a male masseur - Mr was assigned Oscar. And let me tell you something, Oscar did an incredible job. He skipped the legs to focus more on the shoulders and Mr left feeling great. Fellows, if you're going in for a relaxing (or any non-sensual/erotic) massage, don't be afraid to ask for Oscar.

After the massage, everyone got cleaned up and changed for dinner. It was "Aphrodisiac Night" at Pearl, which means the menu was simply ridiculous. Please refer to the @BirdsCancun twitter feed for more information. All I will say here is "Forbidden Salmon", "A Pernod Sigh", and "Peach Mashed Potatoes".

Dinner was followed by drinks in the lobby. Muffin retired early while Mr & Mrs grabbed a seat in the disco. There was a lingerie show in the lobby. Since the models (2 entertainment staff girls and 1 or 2 extras) were using the disco as their backstage, we got an up close look at all the outfits. After the lingerie show, the same dance troupe that got run off stage by CGMcDT a couple nights ago was back to perform a different routine (with no audience participation portion). They did a great job, especially Star Tats, the lone male dancer who didn't seem to get any breaks. He just kept spinning and lifting girl after girl while they rotated out for costume changes.

After the show, the disco was the liveliest - and smiliest - we've seen it all week. Nice to see the floor full of people having fun.

After a while, Mr & Mrs returned to the room, broke in the Party Shower, and then collapsed into bed.
