Its been a month now since we crossed over the doorstep of Desire Pearl for the very first time. A crossing into what best can be describe as a high-end adult amusement park. A crossing into eight days and eight nights that would make us feel nineteen and all “springbreaky” again.
But lets backtrack a bit before we jump on to the roller coster:
A autumn of research and shopping
We have been together since we were 19 and been visiting naturist beaches and resorts in Europe since we were 22. Looking for an alternative during the winter months in the Caribbean, we kinda WEB-stumbled across Desire almost a year ago.
Did we have our doubts ? Sure
Did we go through the pros and cons? More than once
Did we at some point think “we only live once” and just booked? Oh yes
It turned out to be one of the best decisions we have made in a long time.
Deep diving into this forum I guess I read hundreds of Trip reports, posts and polls and somewhere down the rabbit hole I guess I realized: We are gonna fit in. In fact we will fit in perfectly.
Slowly - adapting to the thought that we were actually doing this - we started looking into the theme nights and I guess the hours spent online to find the outfits became too many - but all that kinda doesnt matter when the box arrives in the mail and You ( as a guy ) get to spend a entire evening in the bed watching Your SO try out the outfits.
As January shifted to February we were both ready and we acquainted with both this forum and the february Yahoo-group.
And at 3 am the 18th of February I started my day by shoveling snow from our deck and 3 flights and 24 hours later we jumped on the roller coster for real.
A service level Second to none
Being used to mid-level resorts in the south of Europe what met us was a service level second to none. In the lobby, by the pool, the activities crew and in the restaurants. They really really go the extra mile to make You enjoy Your stay as much as possible.
In our point of view the food was also very good. Breakfast and lunch at Aprodite and mainly we had dinner at Pearl. We also tried out the sushi at Suki one night together with two lovely american couples who almost - but just almost - could have been our parents. The company was better than the food - but then again the company was great. The sushi it self was a mixed matter - some perfect ( the tuna ) some just ok ( the salmon ) - but hey: we are norwegian and quite picky on our raw fish.
Its all about....
But Desire - in our point of view - is not about the food, the room, the brand of the booze, the quality of the towels or any of that kind. Its about the people. Those fantastic, openminded, talkative and proactive people. It could melt even the most frozen Norwegian. And as You have guessed: It did. Big time.
At what other resort would a canadian couple approach a norwegian couple after their first lunch and say: “Hi - Your the Norwegians right? We met on the Yahoo-group. Nice to meet You” and then You actually continue talking after then initial “Hi and hello”. Because You feel you have to? No. Because it feels natural and You actually are in a mindset were You would like to get to know these people ( and they You ): Oh yes.
At what other resort can You dress up in outfits that probably would make You turn off the light in Your own bedroom and head to the disco?
At what other resort does someone come up to You and with a serious tone of voice ask to see Your Prince Albert-piercing up close.
#onlyatdesire
I guess it safe to say we fell in love with Desire, its guest and I guess in a renewed way each other.
During the hours of lounging by the pool. Walking the beach. The pool volley games in the afternoons. The romantic dinners at Pearl.
But last, but not least - the aspects that differ Desire from other resorts.
The insane vibe during some of the theme nights. The firsts we had so many of in so many places. The openminded talks in the jacuzzi during the night.
And just to get that straight: We are not in the Lifestyle, but we did enjoy their/your company. In some odd way we kinda felt we found our tribe.
The flip side of the coin
So is it all good? Not a thing to point finger at? Well - I guess the biggest issues appared after we got back home and got the questions: What did You do? What did You see? How was Cancun?
The straight answer would be: “ Well - we kinda partied like we were nineteen again with a great bunch of americans & canadians that really like to have sex with each other and/or in the public, but that usually happens after dressing up in some insane sexy outfits during disco hours. I was so much fun we just stayed in the hotel”
We all know that does not play and when You strip it down You are kinda stuck with the “stayed in the hotel-part”.
And that sounds kinda boring. So we have been playing the only card we have:
“ We went snorkeling and it was great.“
And it really was, but I could hear my brother laugh a bit when he got the answer and in his “travel the world and see everything-mind” I guess he thought:
“OMG - my 35 year old brother is actually 70”
I will live with him believing that. Because the true story is hard to believe before You have experienced it Yourself.
And if You have found this site You are all ready thinking about going.
Stop thinking. Close Your eyes. Book it. You don´t crawl onto a roller coster. You jump.
We sure did. And we will defenetly ride it again.
