Before our original trip in February 2014, this forum provided a wealth information for us. We're an early-40's couple, from Ohio . Being our seventh venture to Pearl, in 4.5 years, we feel compelled to provide another "trip report." Skipping the ubiquitous flight and airport rhetoric, we'll focus on what makes this place truly fantastic.
First and foremost, the service is familiar and friendly, but absolutely not complacent; which is a difficult task, when familiarity and friendliness is the order of the day. The service is so magnificent, we believe that the Pearl staff is on par, if not better, than the likes of Four Seasons, Disney, Ritz Carlton, etc. This is a tall order which the Pearl staff fulfills without hesitation. For example: Juan (lobby bar) knows exactly how we like our coffee. We adore his margaritas. When we're sitting at the bar, as our glasses are yearning for more, two more are waiting for us. It's akin to a good friend who hosts a party and always makes sure your drink is full. This is the case whether breakfasting at Aphrodite or imbibing the late-afternoon away at the pool or the hot tub.
We say it every time, and it still amazes us; it's completely surreal how the lack of clothes removes all pretense. Those who pinch pennies to come, or those that arrive without a care in the world drink, converse, and laugh together; it's literally amazing. Pearl is one the very few places where socioeconomic status is without regard.
The hot tub was highly active, both in and around the water, both afternoons and evenings. Whether you're laughing with friends from Edmonton you just met, or enjoying your spouse on the palapa beds, this area is one of the highlights of this great resort. Pearl added more two more beds, as well as a seating area with a couch and chairs, on both sides of the hot tub. All were utilized.
The food is enjoyable. Is it Per Se, Alinea, or French Laundry? No. But it's always sufficient and satisfying. (The restaurant) Pearl tries to be adventurous with their cuisine. Their food is well prepared and satisfying. Mexican night is one of our favorites as they make killer authentic cuisine.
When we arrive home, within hours, we're craving to go back. Is it the uniqueness and freedom of the resort? Maybe. Most definitely, it's the staff and management that make this place wonderful. Without that, we wouldn't have been back a second time.
