5th Trip to Pearl - Another great Vac (Aug 2018)

Postby red88vette » Mon Aug 27, 2018 9:03 am

Just back from our 5th trip to Pearl, first one for August. We had tried RM last month and still find Pearl to be our first choice. Had a great time, made a lot of new friends, and always great to see the old ones. A few new Playmakers we had not met before: Candice from Argentina and Channel from New Zealand.

Some changes we saw since May:

The Playmakers area has been renovated. They added a roof over the counter area and also upgraded with granite/marble looking stone, same to the back wall. More contemporary.

They also added a smoking area to the left of the Playmaker area at the same level as the Jacuzzi. Its a nice deck area with cushioned chairs and a gazebo roof for shade. Also the Playmakers have started announcing that guest should use one of the 2 smoking areas rather than around the pool. However, I still saw guest smoking in the pool, more on the less active area. They have moved the wooden towel shelves to an area just off to the right side of the Jacuzzi bar and added some larger cubies on each end of the existing concrete shelving.

With the change at the Playmakers counter and the smoking area addition, they have moved and made a new Daily Schedule board, looks like RM’s. It’s on the walkway leading from the pool up to Unik on your left.

I will post some pic's of the changes on trip advisor for Pearl.

Other:
Breakfast and lunch, still the same buffet style and menu’s with a few items. Also still have the outside grill at lunch with various fare 4 days a week.

You can make reservations for Pearl the day you want to go, or just show up. The 4 times we ate there 7:30-8, there was plenty of room. 8:30-9 it was more crowded.

We thought all the food was great for the Caribbean. We never got hunger as evident by the scales yelling at us when we got home, could be the liquor as well.

Beach still eroded, the seaweed was not too bad the first 3-4 days, the next day blankets of seaweed started coming. Not many guest used the beach loungers. Beds were usually full. Puerto Morelos, had crews of 20+ people making piles to clear their beach area. They used a front loader to transfer the seaweed to trucks to haul it away. The process seemed to working for them, several large areas were open enough to walk in.

The selection of music during the day and at the Disco was better in our opinion. The DJ was taking requests during the day and night. Candice started doing the evening DJ before the Disco opened last week. She did a great job. The Disco entertainment was the same as we had seen before. They should change it up bit. Kia did an awesome trapeze act.

We thought the occupancy was low during the week, at 11AM, less than 5 couples in the pool. We also noticed a higher than usual % of textile. The occupancy did increase for Fri and Sat but it never felt over crowded. The Disco was a bit laid back except for the weekend, thank goodness, was a bit boring, so we made our own fun. Left the Sin room at 12:30 AM Sunday night and the Disco was empty, guess they looked in and didn’t like what they saw. All in all another great time at Pearl.

Assume you’re not meaning this in a “Polyester” kind of way?
