My wife wants to do some jewelry shopping while we are in Cancun. Is it safe and if so, recommendations please.

Well first thing you are not in Cancun - lol

Desire Pearl is about a one hour drive by car/taxi south of Cancun - There is the tourist area(Cancun Hotel Zone) and then Cancun city proper, the two are quite separated from each other - a taxi(if you use USD) to and from Pearl to either area will be about $50 each way.

Yes, the Cancun Hotel Zone is safe, but I wouldn't suggest you try Cancun city proper if you have never been there and don't speak Spanish
