Trip report - DRM May 26- June 1

Context: First timers at any clothing optional resort. A few lifestyle experiences, but on the mild end of the spectrum. Wife is very shy and was extremely anxious going into this trip. The first 36 hours were pretty rough for us as she adjusted to the environment. We have been to several adult-only resorts, so we had high expectations for food, accommodations and service. We were there for 6 nights.

Room: We booked the seductive garden view swim up suite. We got room 2701, which is the far northwest room of the resort, right next to the new motor lobby. It was nice. Spacious and open, plenty of room, big bathroom, lots of drawers and closet space.

NOTE: I looked into booking the same room at the same time next year (2025) and it is more than double what I paid when I booked back in October of last year. ~$2000 a day in 2025 vs. ~$900 a day. We enjoyed the room, but in my opinion the value proposition isn’t really there. The butler service was ok, but really, all they did for us was make dinner reservations. We will be back, but in a more reasonably priced room.

Top experience:
TLDR - Construction workers were walking by our room all day. Management had a privacy screen installed. It was much better.
Full Story - The swim-out pool attached to our room faces the north side of the resort. They have planted a lot of vegetation, but it has not grown in. There is a fence about 10 feet or 3 meters from the back of the pool. Each day, we had construction workers walking back and forth along the fence line from 8 am to 5:15 pm in a non-stop parade. So, basically, during the day, we could not “really” enjoy the pool area. On the second day, I called guest services and asked them if something could be done. They said they would call me back. They didn’t. On the morning of the third day, I went to the lobby and spoke with the manager on duty. She offered me a free massage. I countered with a suggestion that they install a privacy screen along the fence so the guests affected could enjoy the pool they paid for. She said she would see what she could do. We spent that day at the quiet pool (more on this later). When we arrived back at our room, they had installed a privacy screen along the entire fence line. I was extremely impressed with the responsiveness of the manager and made a point to go back to the lobby to personally thank them. We “really” enjoyed the pool after that. Wink.

Pool areas
The new pool is very nice and the playmakers make it fun! About 20% of the women were fully nude and 80%+ at least topless. The ratio of fully nude men to fully nude women was probably 4:1. My wife went topless after the first day and she was comfortable with it. The main pool was pretty cloudy for our entire time there. We assume it’s from all the sunscreen. It was also pretty warm. At least 86F. The pool bar area was crowded from noon until 4 or so. The wait service was ok. They were a little slow. I tipped our server $5 at least 3 times each day and we had maybe 10 drinks between us. I was expecting better service from all the reviews I read. The atmosphere at the new pool is party, loud and fun. One of our favorite parts of the pool area was the pizza bar. It’s very good quality, quick and convenient. Delicious.

A couple days, we spent our afternoon at the old/quiet pool. It’s like being in a different resort. Pick any chairs or bed you want. Rest quietly or get in the pool. Service is much better than the main pool. The bar area is open/quiet. One of the nice things about the old pool area is how attentive the service is. One of the days we spent there, I asked the server if it was possible for someone to bring us Pizza from the other pool. He said he’d check. Next thing I knew, we had pizza. I tipped them a lot. They offered to bring us food at the new pool, but then apparently got busy with something else and it never happened.

Other notes:
I’m naturally an early riser. Once the sun starts to come up, I’m awake. I enjoyed the mornings. I went out with nothing but flip-flops on and got coffee (the barista is very good!), reserved our pool chairs for the day and just enjoyed the relative cool of the morning. Got a little reading in. It is very peaceful in the mornings.

Shows in the evening were really spectacular! Fun, sexy and entertaining. The disco was ok. It’s crowded and therefore slow service. The playroom was beautiful. Very clean. A few beds were busy. My wife and I enjoyed playing in the playroom. She was shy about playing in the hot tub area. She’s making progress.

The restaurants were all good. Suki was our favorite. But we enjoyed all of our dinner experiences. In fact, of all the all-inclusive resorts we’ve been to, we thought DRM had the best overall quality of food and dinner service.

Do not go to DRM for the beach. It is very narrow and very dirty. Plan to spend time at the pool.

Overall, we had a very good experience and we plan to return.
