Desire Cruise: Rome-Barcelona, May 13-20 2025

We are staying in Rome 3 days prior to the cruise. Then we plan to stay in Barcelona for 3 days following the cruise. Training Pedralbes looks like fun. Have you been there before?

Hello everyone, this will be our first Desire cruise and are so excited! We plan on arriving 3-4 days early into Rome as we are hoping to take the train to Florence for a day trip. Will most likely stay only an extra day in Barcelona. As you can tell, no specific plans have been made yet. We would love a meet and greet one evening so we can recognize faces once we get on the ship.

Florence is magical - but VERY crowded!!!

This will be our first Desire cruise and are very excited! We have plans to arrive 3-4 days early in Rome but will most likely only have one extra day in Barcelona. We are thinking we may take a train to Florence one of the days in Rome. As you can tell we have not made any definite plans yet. For anyone who has been on a Desire cruise in the past a few questions: What time were you allowed to board the ship? What time frame was the meet & greet the night before the cruise and do you remember what it was (drinks, food, dancing, playroom, etc) THANKS so much for helping us !!!

I know it will probably not be the same for every cruise, but trying to figure out a few things that are a little time dependent. We are thinking of doing a few things on the morning before we leave for the cruise (not a scheduled booked tour, just a quick look at a few sites); did anyone do this and how did you find it time-wise?

I think this will be our 8th Desire cruise. Here are our thoughts.

For anyone who has been on a Desire cruise in the past a few questions: What time were you allowed to board the ship? It varies by cruise and cabin. The cruise-line will send out a message a little before the cruise and you will sign up for a boarding time. Typically it seems to start somewhere between 11am and 1pm. What time frame was the meet & greet the night before the cruise and do you remember what it was (drinks, food, dancing, playroom, etc) This also varies as Desire finds different locations for each of the M&Gs. It usually starts early evening the night before the cruise. There are always drinks and food. Dancing, playroom, and other entertainment also are dependent on the venue but there are always things to do. THANKS so much for helping us !!!

I know it will probably not be the same for every cruise, but trying to figure out a few things that are a little time dependent. We are thinking of doing a few things on the morning before we leave for the cruise (not a scheduled booked tour, just a quick look at a few sites); did anyone do this and how did you find it time-wise? The ports are typically a good jaunt from the city where they hotels are, so you will want to be prepared for the drive. Also, you will want to factor in traffic and road closures as 2025 is Jubilee in Rome. With that said, you could have time to get a little sight seeing done if you get up early and are well planned.

If anyone can help me out - how do we get notified of the time to board the ship and what time do they allow boarding to begin ???

Also, when can we make dinner reservations at the specialty restaurants - we want to make sure we can complete dinner before the shows !!

And finally, when are we able to select our excursions for the ports ?

This will be our 7th Desire cruise (all in the Mediterranean). People absolutely do the excursions. Personally, we typically do 2+ excursions a cruise. Many of the excursions start early in morning and finish up early afternoon. Plenty of time to hit the pool when it is the busiest. Even if we don't we will still go ashore and grab lunch at a local restaurant.
