Maybe I am better off booking a tour that picks you up from the hotel. Either way looks like it will definitely be a full day away from Pearl to do it. Has anyone done one of these snorkel tours from the resort?

FYI - the largest and best reef for snorkeling is located right in front of Pearl and runs from just south of Cancun to Cozumel - you can book a snorkeling trip at the resort either morning or afternoon and only be away from the resort for 2 or 3 hours max. (no whale sharks on this reef, but lots of other fish, rays, etc )
Peak whale shark sightings off/around Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy, and Isla Holbox is July through August, but as mentioned previously it's an all day affair, expensive and no guarantee of seeing any whale sharks .........
