Water Sports question (the OUTDOOR kind!!)

Postby tallnsexyinnj » Tue Jul 12, 2011 9:58 pm

Wondering about the state of the water sports department - are the sailboats sailing? Are the kayaks kayaking? Has any of the equipment been upgraded? Is Leo still running the show out there?

Also, in reading about the recent beach improvements, what is the condition of the volleyball court?

Thanks! Counting down the days!!!

been a few years since I used the watersports equipment. I tried to go to Cozumel by kayak to trade a friend for a t-shirt, but decided it was a little far. :P Sorry not much help.

When we were there in May, the beach reclamation had made the beach volleyball court much nicer and safer (No rocks to dive onto :!: ) and the occasional errant serve didn't automatically end up in the surf. A VAST improvement !

The water sports department has never been a real major consideration at Desire. It has always been very under-utilized IMHO. Yes, Leo and the boys were still there but they never engage anyone to try to get the guests doing things on the water. They just sit in their corner and wait to be approached, or they are out using the equipment themselves. If you do approach them, however, they will set you up with the Hobies or kayaks and you can use them as you like. If they ever were able to rebuild the pier, I think this would be a more involved part of the resort. But as it is now, it is very lacking.

In the week we were there, I would say I saw (from our beach bed  )maybe a dozen people use any of the equipment on the water.

agree with tp - you pretty much have to ask them and even then, they are on Mexican time. God bless Leo, and he is a great guy, but the water sports hasn't really been the same since (many years ago) Charbel left. Of course Elena had a crush on him so maybe that was part of the equation. :)

Rebuild the pier? That, and the beach reclamation, would bring Desire back to its former glory. Ah the good old days!
