We travelled from the UK.. a 10 hour flight but always worth it.. This year we flew Virgin; excellent service and on time. This was our second trip to Desire.
We just managed to dodge the timeshare and other sales folks at Cancun airport. Also managed to get a green light again.. on the plane we had to fill out the visa card with our address.. does anyone else feel sheepish handing over the card with 'Desire' written on it? lol
We used Transbeach.. nice and efficient, no issues.
Check in was OK. Great to get the wristband on and feel you have arrived..
We booked an Ocean View room and had requested a king size bed. The first room we were offered was not suitable; we felt it had a musty smell. Nobody disagreed. It took a little while to work out an acceptable solution but in the end we got there; first one room for one night and then what we felt was a nicer, ground floor room for the rest of the stay. We did sense that you had to push a little.. as somebody said to us.. 'the squeaky wheel gets the grease'. It took an hour or so but it was all fixed; we soon forgot the trouble, got naked and headed up to the jacuzzi bar.. what a wonderful place it is!
The room was fine by the way and whilst they have carried out some refurbishment, the bathroom looks a little tired. An ipod dock in the room would be nice.
This was only our second trip to Desire RM but we have enjoyed clothing optional resorts elsewhere and holiday in Cap D'Agde every summer.. we like the freedom and liberal environment these places offer.. As many people observe, it seems so easy to strike up a conversation and make friends when you are naked.. It would be difficult for us to contemplate a sun / beach holiday where we couldn't get naked..
The food:
Breakfast was good with eggs cooked to order, cold meats, bacon, sausage etc. The coffee is never great at the buffet but the lobby bar do real stuff.
Lunch was good, with freshly cooked meats, salads and a varied menu from day to day.
Dinner - we ate three times at Suki, three times at Il Piacere and once at the buffet. Apart from the buffet, which wasn't so good, the food was acceptable, not outstanding. We were told the Tepanyaki at Suki was delicious but sadly didn't get chance to try it.
The house wines are OK but they do have a good, if pricey, wine list should you wish.
Service:
It is said here often and it is so true that the staff are delightful. They are engaging and will do what it takes to make your stay enjoyable. I have to say it grated on us once or twice when the staff were spoken to by guests in a dismissive and abrupt tone.
Gym / Spa
We managed to hit the gym a few times. It's perfectly adequate for a workout. We also had a couple of massages but didn't go for the erotic version.. maybe next year?! A massage under the gazebo at the beach was awesome.
Entertainments:
We are beach people so didn't really see much of the daytime ents. All the staff work very hard to get things moving and generate a fun environment. The samba competition was interrupted one day by two blow up sheep apparently having sex whilst floating across the pool.. difficult to describe adequately but a very funny moment.. thank you M.. you know who you are!
A special mention to Lisa (and her devoted helper Scott) for the massage lessons and the Patsy for the yoga.. we didn't think yoga could be so sexy
We made the disco most nights. We are not great ones for the theme nights but MrsJ does dress up each night in some revealing dresses and outfits, which we both enjoy.. where else can you take you wife to dinner in a see through dress and ankle boots? I took my rubber biker pants this year and they made an appearance twice or maybe three times.. yes that was me! I also took my leather kilt.. and now a few more people know what a man wears under his kilt!
The jacuzzi bar is fantastic. Although we avoid the hot tub (for various reasons) we like the dry side and the whole environment here. The foam party here in place of the disco one night was a welcome addition. This was only the second night they had held it and the foam was still a bit thin and blew away, but reports elsewhere on the forum suggest they have nailed these issues.
Of all the things about Desire, we find the environment wonderful. You could say that no one element was exceptional or could not be found in another resort, but the combination of all the things and the opportunity to meet people of all backgrounds from all over the world is unique. I guess that's why we love it so much, it hooks you in like it does and why we will be back.. If you are reading this just thinking about a first trip, we would say don't hesitate. It is a non-judgmental environment where you can relax and above all enjoy time with your partner, connect and refresh the energy..
Finally thanks to Cokeman for setting up and maintaining the Forum. When we are not there we can read all about it and it does provide a source of really useful information...
