Humidity and hair problems!

Postby kittykittie » Tue May 21, 2013 5:07 pm

I have curly hair, but I prefer to straighten it at night when I want to "sexify" myself (necessary, trust me). How's the humidity? Should I even bother bringing the flat iron, or is the weather/climate not likely to ruin my hair? I'm going May 31-June 6. I live in Baltimore, and we have the most temperamental weather with the nastiest humidity. If there's any chance of rain, the humidity immediately ruins my straightened locks into a weird, raggedy frizz pile :/

It is always a problem for me, too! In fact, I am trying to decide if I want to go short and flat iron the front, letting the back go wild. I usually have my hair chin length, and let it go curly...but does it ever go curly and the sun dries it out....even with sunscreen. I hope others will share some tips for us. It is a dilemma!

Damn I see you come when I go! If I get any tips while there, I will certainly share. I've tried every siliconey, waxy, greasy, whatever product on the market to no avail. Have you been to desire before? If so, was it a major problem?

I'd say go short, but not too short that extra tight curls caused by humidity and sun damage will make it shrink up to nothingness lol. Mine is shoulder length and baby fine (yet poofy when humid) and I don't pull off a ponytail too well. But I can't get it wet either bc it dries like a Brillo pad!

Last year I took a family vacay to Cabo, and while the weather is pretty dry out there, I did have luck with even getting my hair wet then drying like a "normal haired person." I used an at-home straightener, made by clairol or revlon. It can damage your hair, but it is made for non-ethnic hair an is gentle enough to do once or so. I don't have time to do it before going this year, and the regrowth is a little bit of a pain when I had half curly and half straight going on because I refused to cut it (afraid it wouldn't grow back haha) and didnt want to keep up with maintenance of using the product. If you're going to go somewhat short eventually anyway (it's good for 3 mos) then try it! It takes about 2 hours (that includes waiting time) to do, but having a helping hand would certainly speed up the process I think. Maybe I'll try a quicker 30-day one. Those usually don't work tho lol but I have one leftover from a BOGO deal at rite aid some time ago. Maybe I can get my 9 year old to assist me!

I'd advise just planning to rock the curls. Fighting it will likely be a losing battle. My hair is nearly pin-straight at home and I use a curling iron daily. When I go to RM, I leave the iron home and have curls that magically appear at the Desire shore!

Last year was my first time at RM, but our third time to the Riviera Maya region. Every year, I wonder what in the world will I do with my curly blonde mop? It isn't THAT curly back home, but is very wavy, if I let it go. I never thought of straightening it like some people go for perms. Lots of good advice, ladies, thanks! 14 days till we will be there. This time at Pearl. I will get my hair done the day before we leave. I will pack my straightener, in case I dare try it, and a strong gel to protect the curls, and have a grand time--shorter or not!

According to this poll http://desiremexico.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2770 Most women don't bother with curls and just shave it. Plus, I would think you would burn yourself with a straightener down there.

Just a note to all the women, whether or not you have a problem with your hair. Don't fuss with it too much on Tuesday the Jacuzzi foam party night. Pull it back if you can, it will get wet but the party is absolutely the Best. So don't put too much time into it that evening. :US

Thanks for the tips! And I'll be waxing the lady bits the day before I leave, so no need to worry there lol. Guess I'm gonna find a strong gel; good idea!
Looking forward to the foam party. I've never been to one before.
