State of the beach

What is the state and size of the beach at the moment?
I know that they rebuilt it all with dredged sand at the end of 2009 all the way down from Cancun. What is it like now?

Although I don't know anything about bringing sand down from Cancun, When we were there 3 weeks ago, the reclamation project that they have underway seems to be working VERY well. The beach is now about 15 feet from the beach bed bases at high tide. This is a huge improvement from our trip in 2010 where the waves were actually washing up under the beds and contacting the retaining wall.

It is now much easier for Afrika and René to do their jobs without rubber boots !

That is great news thanks. We are going on saturday and hoped that the beach would be in good condition.

Please keep us updated. The beach has always been something that we've looked at from the pool and would love to be able to do more than just look at it during low tide.

We arrive 3 weeks from TOMORROW....but who's counting?

Last year when we were there, we spent a lot of time on the beach. The tide often brought the water within a couple feet of the steps from the beach beds. This made it difficult to enjoy the sun in a beach chair.

This year, there was a noticeable difference in the distance from the water to the beds. There has to be at least 15' more beach than before...maybe more. This was a very nice change as I believe Desire has been working on making it much more conducive to the guests.

We just got back on Monday and the beach keeps getting wider and wider. In fact we unfortunately had two days of rain and wind and the beach held up very well. In the past the water would have been pounding the sea wall during this kind of rain

We were there last year in September. I remember walking up and down the beach and having to watch my step so as not to stub my toes on some reef projecting through the sand. The lounges at the foot of the beach beds were partially in the water. The tourists walking by were right on top of us. And we still had an AWESOME time!

Is there actually room for the lounges and a bit of privacy now? Can we stroll the beautiful sand without watching our step? This is very good news!

Can't wait for October...

There is plenty of room. You will be pleased with the changes. Afrika doesn't have to get her feet wet delivering drinks!!!

Any pictures of the new & improved beach???

Lots of people are saying how much better the beach is since they replenished the sand and added break waters off shore.

Does anyone have any recent beach pics they could share?

Thanks!!
