buying gifts for home

Postby Flirty » Mon Jul 25, 2011 2:10 pm

Hi everyone,

We are newbies and going to Desire in two weeks, we are so excited it is all we can talk about. We also understand that when we get back from vacation we would like to bring presents home for our family. Do we have to travel to Cancun to find vacation presents or is there a night when vendors come to the resort and you can buy them there?

thanks! :D

You have lots of options

1. Desire has a Vendors night once a week where there are a number of vendors booths set up around the pool at about dinner time - here's a forum thread on the subject http://desireresorts.19.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=2054

2. The town of Puerto Morelos is a short(10min) and cheap($13 each way) taxi ride from Desire and there are several small shops that might interest you

3. The shops at the airport.

4a. The shops on 5th Ave in Playa del Carmen -35 min taxi ride and about $40 each way
4b. Market 28 in the Cancun hotel zone - 35 min taxi ride and about $40 each way

Personally I would not waste any significant time "off campus" shopping for anything - lol - therefore consider the choices in the order I ranked them

gifts for home

we have been able to find some neat things for the kids and grandparents both at the vendor night. Leather works, clothing, jewelry, artisan work.

Flirty,

I don't know who you are buying gifts for, but I bought some beautiful, not too expensive, silver jewelry for my sister and daughter at the jewelry store in the lobby of the resort. The next trip, I get to get some for me!

Car

Hello

Just to add a note. I agree with Coke, you have many options at the resort. However, if you do decide to travel off prop, you can rent a car at the resort for the day. We did this years ago, cost us about $55 total (Tax, insurance ,etc) for 24 hours. This worked out cheaper then taken the cab and allowed us to go into Playa one afternoon, and Cancun the next morning.

Anyway, again just a suggestion.

Have a great week.

I want to thank everyone for giving me their advice and I plan on seeing what is available that Tuesday night and if I don't find anything I will try the store at Desire.

Thanks Again!
