But, this is the DISCO thread…the last thing I had on my mind at the disco was trying to operate a camera.
How about a nice beach picture instead?

The disco employs several different DJ's so it varies a bit. The best DJ in May was Vanessa's (The EC hottie) boyfriend. He really knew how to read a crowd and keep it hopping. On the night he was off though, his replacement was terrible...continually clearing the dance floor, never playing requests and basically pissing everyone off. Not sure if he is still there however, as there were A LOT of complaints about him that night........

It strange to me that food, and guest services. If there is a problem it is correct immediately. But the on going problem of bad, unprofessional DJ's is still going on. It is a small problem, but it needs to addressed.

seems to me there is a new DJ every time we go - and it is one of the most important positions at desire. If you like to dance like we do, it certainly can be hit and miss.

Exactly, What if you walked in to breakfast, Oh nothing looks good. Not to far off from the disco. Having a great night walk in to the disco, oh noting sounds good........ I said it before and I will say it again just play to the crowd. Just because it is hot in New York or the clubs in Mexico. Does not mean it will be a hit at desire.....

The pool side music at Cabo was 60's in the morning 70's early afternoon to noon, 80' til about 3:00 and so on...

I think I speak for a large portion. Mix it up 70's 80's 90's and current... It is not like we are asking for much.... If money is an issue plug in the Ipod and fire the DJ :D

We like your way of thinking, thebutcher95. A mix of the 'oldies ('70's) all the way to the '90's music (that we can actually DANCE to) would be nice.

It's not rocket science and it seems that most of the negative comments re the resort on the boards is about the music in the disco - you would think the resort would 'listen' and do something about it.

There really is some good music now that is great to dance to. Dont just stop at the 90s. The club we go to plays a real wide mix of old to country to new. Really great on the requests too.

My wife and I have been taking ballroom dancing classes for two years. We're not good enough to do the Swing steps as fast as most of the music that is played in the disco, and it is rare to catch a Rumba or Cha Cha rhythm unless the DJ plays an "oldie". Waltz? Forget about it. We'd love to keep practicing what we've learned, but the music seems to cater to the "rave" type dancing.
We've seen lots of young couples doing ballroom lately (and very well, too!) - maybe because of "Dancing With the Stars"? So far, this resurgence is mainly at clubs specifically for that type of dancing - or at street concerts where the bands are playing old-fashioned rock and roll covers. Actually, the raised dance floor at Desire is so small that ballroom is dangerous - it's much better as a "mosh pit".
Anyway, we'd love more variety in the rhythms - but I know the DJ has to go with the crowd's mood, and that can't be an easy job to figure out.
Cheers - and keep dancing!

Dancing at the Disco

Postby gizmo » Tue Aug 09, 2011 5:36 pm

My wife and I found that you can two step and swing dance, both east coast and west coast, to much of the music played at the disco. Of course that is if the floor is not too crowded. I think we even had a cha cha once or twice. Another couple that was there at the same time as us were fantastic salsa dancers and we enjoyed sharing our steps and learning theirs. It is sometimes surprising how well traditional dance steps can be used with modern music. Can't wait to visit again in December and March. There is nothing like Desire!

My fiance and I love the current hits they play at the disco. I am 40 and she is 36, and we hear the same music at the tanning salon and on our iPods while working out.

Gizmo, now that you mention it, I remember that we did get a beginners salsa lesson from Vanessa and her E.C. crew of cuties one afternoon when it was raining. We enjoyed trying it out that evening in the disco.
"West coast swing" - now that's advanced stuff - we'll need a few more lessons before trying that.
