Vegetarian Meal Options

Postby amberlou » Thu Jan 19, 2012 4:31 pm

Can anyone provide some guidance for vegetarian meal options for a couple of Californias.

we have been to Desire a few times and have alerted the staff ahead of time as was suggested. The chef and his team were wonderful and attentive... but what usually happened was we were proudly served a plate of steamed rice with sliced vegetables :) That is fine for a meal or two, but after many days of late nights and hard dancing and partying, one will tend to get a little light headed from lack of protein.

we have, in the past simply asked for beans and rice, but learned that the beans are cooked with lard, so that doesnt work for us. we asked if the beans could be boiled, but because everything is fresh that takes a whole day and not the traditional cultural way to prepare beans (and at that point we were feeling like we were being difficult and didnt want to offend the very kind chef and his team)

Usually steamed or fried tofu and Edamame (steamed soy beans) are common and japanese restaurants but not at Suki, Desire Japanese restaurant nor is here a vegetarian option at Il Piacere, Desire Italian restaurant... unless that has changed. I dont know if tofu is as readily available in Cancun as it is in California.

anyway, any advice or direction would be welcome and appreciated. Sorry to be such a typical couple of high maintainance Californians. But you wouldnt want us vegetarian partiers passing out on you in the hot tub... or the playroom!

We are not vegans but can appreciate where you are coming from.

With Vegans as with people in the LS there are many shades of grey and what may help the chefs is to know in advance all of the items that are acceptable to you(from what they have available every day) and how they can and cannot be cooked.

I'm sure if you got together with the food and beverage manager when you arrive and discussed the above in advance the chefs would be probably be able to surprise you with their creativity.

Just a thought - wouldn't want you to lack for energy at Desire - lol !

:D
