Food and Bug issues??

I have been comunnicating with a number of other couples that have been to Desire over the last 60 days and they have reported issues with menu items/food in the restaurants and, more importantly, big issues with misquitoes in the rooms and outside in the evenings. Reports are that Desire has stopped "fogging" or spraying.

Are these issues now common at Desire and do they need to be addressed by management?

We were recently at Desire. We had no food problems of any kind. There were some mosquitos in our room. I always get bit while we are there, but they never bothered us. The management is aware of the bug problem. Fogging used to be done on a daily basis in the early evening, but so many guests complained of the smell they had to quit. Take some good bug spray that has "Deet" in it and you shouldn't have a problem.

The answer as to whether or not there are "issues" kind of depends on your definition. We just returned from Desire May 19th.
When it comes to food you'll never totally satisfy everyone out of a group of 200 folks on the resort at one time. For us this trip, the quality of food was excellent everywhere. The lunch grill buffet and the night time buffets where the best they had ever been.
We did not particularly like the changes in the menu in Il Piacere (the rack of lamb was gone) but others were happy. This restaurant is french style food and its not usually our big thing anyway. We are also tired of the Italian restaurants menu- it has changed very little over the past two years. But the quality was very good- and someone who doesn't go as often as us might think it's great. Desire management does get suggestions regularly on the food menu choices and they are always addressing it trying to please as many people as possible. So once you get there don't hesitate to let them know what you think after you have seen & tasted for yourself.
The mosquito problem comes & goes.The severity depends on recent weather and local conditions, but with the huge swamp across the road it will never be a total non issue. This trip was about medium- some folks had several nighttime bites and others none. They did not fog/spray that week. The unconfirmed rumor is that many people complain about the fogging. Again you can't please everyone, maybe it is who screams the loudest on this issue ? The mosquitos in the rooms is generally caused by the maids. When they clean your room they are taught to leave the door open for obvious reasons. We had only a few but the friends in the room above us did have a lot. If you do, try having a note in spanish made for your door by Mia or someone else at the resort asking that the door be kept closed when cleaning.
To us- these things were much less of an issue this trip than they had been on some others. We would have liked to have seen them fogging for bugs,but in fact the food overall was something we complimented Desire on this time.

Ohhhhhhh, the bugs.... We come from Canada and live in the country, so we KNOW about mosquitoes, but the ones in Desire are NASTY... I got bit on my legs last time and was awake for weeks after at night just scratching the skin off it! So for the people who have been there lately, would you advise to bring mosquito repellant and wear as soon as the sun goes down? We have this very potent stuff called "Deep Woods" here up North...

By the way, my husband didn't get one bite, so they are a very picky species, too!

my wife and i have been several years in a row now and never had much of an issue with the mosquitoes. maybe one or two bites. we always go in june or july if that matters. i would highly recommend taking the benadryl "bite sticks". they stop the itching completely.

We will be there in late July and I personally liked it last time when I saw them spraying for bugs. I grew up in FL, so I am use to this. However, if I remember correctly it was usually done around late hot tub time, LOL! So...if we all venture up to the hot tub for that time, Desire can spray and we can all be a little less buggy all around. Anyway, just my two cents. Can't wait!

We were there at the end of April for 3 nites.
There was a light to medium breeze most of the time days and nites.
We did not get a single bite and we did not use any of the several types of repelent we brought.
