Any shade to be had?

Postby cgarman » Mon Nov 25, 2013 4:58 pm

So here's the deal...

We're planning on coming to Desire to see the sun in the middle of our dreary mountain winter (late Feb.) The only problem is that I have very light/Caucasian/transparent skin :) Seriously - I spent a day at the pool in Las Vegas, 90% under the cabana umbrella, covered in SPF 80, and still turned red.

I'm convinced that sunblock is not enough for me, especially the parts that never see the light of day :) Is there any chance of finding a shady spot by the beach or pool so that when I up the ante with SPF 100 this time, I'll only turn a light shade of pink?

My wife loves the sun, and I'm trying to be a sport here. But seriously, I think I could burn under a fluorescent bulb indoors. Am I just destined to become a crispy critter?

Thanks,

c

There are quite a few umbrellas around the pool but to get the best seats be up early to claim yours.

The secret to avoiding sunburn when using SPF protection products is to start to apply them at least 24 hours before you hit the sun(it take time for the skin and chemicals to build up the protection) and then re apply at regular intervals throughout the day - it's not a barrier product, it reacts with your skin and has to build up to be effective - btw anything over SPF 40 is just a waste of money since the skin can't utilize the extra amount of chemicals in those products ;)

My wife and I avoid the sun while at Desire. During our recent trip, there were some shade trees around the pool and we also used the umbrellas. It provided plenty of shade for us. We have to avoid the sun, so we actually wear sun protective clothing during the day along with seeking the shade...we go to Desire for the nightly fun.

We are both translucent.

Ms A tends to grow her freckles and then burn, neither of us tan. We religiously apply our SPF 60 every day, wear coverups (a little something can be as sexy as nothing at all ;) ) and sun hats, and always ask for beach beds or pool lounges in the shade. We often try to get up in time to have breakfast, grabbing a lounge chair first. After the first couple of times the pool/beach attendants know to give us something in the shade or with an umbrella we can deploy without our asking ;)

So far, 3 trips and no serious sun burns.
