New fee to visit from RM to pearl or visa versa

I can understand that staffing is an issue - in the event Pearl is 40% occupied and a large group heads over to Pearl from DRM for the day, staffing might have already accounted for that 40% occupancy. If that's the case send a bartender over on the same shuttle and charge MAYBE a nominal fee. I was aware there was a fee if you went from DRM to Pearl for dinner, never understood it, but realized it was in existence. But to charge an outrageous amount is just plain greed. If they want to cut down on the number of couples going over and impacting service, perhaps a limit is an option - that I could deal with.
Personally, we have been to Pearl for the day, didn't care for it. Yes, absolutely beautiful pool, but did not offer anything we would be interested in. Have no intention on heading over there again unless it was part of a group - even in September - but do not agree with basically restricting others who might want to check out the resort. At the prices paid for ALL INCLUSIVE, an additional $150 per couple is outrageous.

I have no idea why this room even exists, nobody would agree to stay in it! Pray it's not yours! LOL

Just a FYI - that room is normally used by Managers that have to stay overnight because of a special event, etc. - it's not normally booked but they do occasionally use it for guests in an emergency situation such as yours.

Not a rumor, it's a new policy that can be found on the Desire site, as well as having been confirmed by a forum mod who's currently on site, and specifically asked if it was in fact true.

Admin Note: Sorry but the conversation you have posted was NOT with Original Resorts(Desire) Management - Original Resorts(Desire) has a policy that forbids their Management from posting or participating on Internet forums.
Further, PXXXXr is not Original Resorts(Desire) Management - they just work for Management just like any other dept - F&B, Housekeeping, etc

This policy is insane!

So much for the new management being customer oriented!

Firstly, in all the time that pearl has been open, (takeovers excluded) I am pretty sure that there hasn’t been a single night where both resorts were sold out at the same time, as a matter of fact, it seems that one resort draws occupancy from the other. When one is at a high occupancy percentage, it seems the other is low.....(based on our experiences and others trip reports on this forum).

The only time we shuttled from RM to Pearl, the folks were thrilled to see new faces (occupancy at that time was about 20%). True Pearl is nice but what the heck is there that you won’t find at RM (or even more ridiculously vice versa) that’s worth $150???? A swim up bar?? (Hopefully that will be addressed in the new renovations). People hop between the resorts to check them out in the hopes of staying there in the future….that will quickly stop!

We are booked to go to RM in August and have friends going to Pearl at the same time….if we wanna hang out together….its gonna cost one of us $150??? A DAY???

Sorry this is an AWFUL idea that will piss off Desire Loyalists. We pay a high premium to enjoy what Desire offers and to be nickel and dimed is infuriating!!
The biggest problem lies in another thread on this board “Any Other Place Like Desire”. The consensus is no, there is no other place like this, so until there is some viable competition, we are stuck with these ridiculous policies.

We just got back from RM yesterday and yes there is a charge now of $150 per couple to visit Pearl for the day. There were quite a few couples that went over last Saturday for their foam party and had to pay the fee. Of course there was a lot of people discussing this in the hot tub during the course of the week.

Going to Pearl on 4/27/14 for 7 days. This will be our 1st time to a Desire resort. I called and asked before I booked, if we would have access to both resorts. I was told by management that we would have access. I am more then upset that they just changed the policy, and now we are just sh*t out of luck! Like everyone else, this vacation will cost upwards of 6 thousand dollars. To nickle and dime guests willing to spend that much money, is a horrible strategy on Desires part! I really hope they re-think their new policy.

This new policy seems absurd to say the least. If management does not respond to emails within a week, suggest we start to post negative trip reviews on Trip Advisor that specifically mention this policy as a reason for our disappointment. I predict this, along with decreased bookings over the next 6 months, will get management's attention better than anything.
