Hi all just a few questions. New to the board. Transportation to and from airport we plan on staying at the resort, what works the best? We would like to pay in cash for that. Dress code for dinner, do the laides dress up in slutty/sexy outfits? What should men wear? Does the hotel have a gift shop or is there some place to shop within walking distance? We have been to Hedo and the Blue Bay Getaway before so we are looking forward to the sexy atmosphere.

Our airport transfers are arranged through our travel agent and are part of the package. We are told that the time-share sharks are voracious around the airport, and you really have to be on your toes to find an authentic transportation company if you haven't pre-arranged one to meet you there.

Dinner dress: Men in smart casual with slacks, shirt and shoes or at least dress sandals. Women in elegant or sexy evening wear or cocktail wear.

After the evening entertainment, some (like us) will change into the them outfits for the theme night. Others will dress in very sexy and revealing club wear. Others may just stay in their evening wear and finally some just head to the jaccuzi (this is based on our experience as the former Desire in Los Cabos, which we understand is about the same routine as Cancun).

The hotel does have a gift shop. As we understand it, there isn't any true shopping within walking distance of the hotel, so you would probably be wise to do your shopping upon arrival in Cancun or before you depart. However, if its like Los Cabos, we didn't want to spend much time away from the resort anyway.

Beware that we've never been to Desire Cabo before, so if anyone else on the site has conflicting information, they are probably right.

There are several good transfer companies that provide transportation to and from the airport- but for them you'll need to reserve in advance with a credit card.
If you want to pay cash, there are plenty of taxi's both at the airport and waiting at Desire. At the airport - when you exit customs with your bags you'll go into a long, wide room that takes you outside. There will be a lot of shark's there asking to see your transfer voucher or asking other questions. IGNORE THEM. On your right before you exit the building is the official taxi stand. See them and they will fix you up. $55 to desire. At Desire, just ask at the desk for a taxi to the airport. They are waiting outside the resort and arrive quickly. Cost is $30 back to the airport.
There is a gift shop at Desire with essentials and some gift items. At the highway where you turn onto Desire's road, there is a nice "Oxo" convienience store- but thats a couple mile walk from Desire. Otherwise, you'll want to pick up whatever you need in Cancun- or take a taxi from Desire to Puerto morelos 10 miles to the south- a $10 taxi ride.
Dress for dinner- pretty much anything goes for the ladies- sexy/slutty is fine. But the majority tend to wear more "elegant" slutwear (if that makes sense) for dinner and then change later for the theme/disco.

Thanks for all the great info. We have a couple more. Tipping? Is room service included in the all inclusive price? Has anyone gone on the cat cruise to Cosemel?

Tipping is not expected or oligatory by any means, but with the outstanding level of service some staff provide you will probably want to anyway. We always do and it is very much appreciated by the staff.

Room service IS included, but we definitely do tip for that.

Not sure about Cozumel, but there are lots of threads on this forum about the cat cruises. Have a look for them

Lastly, we strongly recommend arranging TransBeach to shuttle you from the airport. It is a private transfer, meaning no waiting for others at the airport, and there are no stops at any other resort. It is direct to Desire with no delay ! They are very professional and charge $80 roundtrip. Well worth it IMHO. You can arrange them through Desire themself, as they are the "Official" transfer company. I don't believe cash would be an option with them though.

Agree on TransBeach. They've been reliable and fun. We've booked with Desire at the time we made our reservations. As far as tipping goes we always tip at the end. We also did room service breakfast every day and didn't tip. Now that you mention it I think that was a mistake. Whatever you do you will find that tipping is not required and probably doesn't change the great level of service. Just a nice thing to do for some of the nicest staff you'll find....

That's too bad. Oh well, "He" will be wearing long pants at dinner - and that's okay if "He's" the only one. It's all part of the package.

Nah, he won't be the "only one"...most still wore long pants, as did I most nights. AC was broken one night in Il Paciere though, wish I'd worn shorts that night.....

I too will continue to wear long pants for dinner as I think it lends a more classy & complimentary look to the amazing outfits my wife wears. She wants me to look like I "belong" with her and not just going for total comfort. I totally agree as well. I want her to keep looking amazing (and she does) and cant see even the nicest pair of dress shorts matching.

I wonder if this is a rule that has been temporarily relaxed because of all the Air Conditioning issues that have been happening this year ? Maybe as those problems get fixed it will be more enforced. We hope so.

Agreed with the others, I will continue wearing long pants at dinner whether it's Suki or Il Piacere.....it'll fit in with the decor of the restuarants and other guests.

Yes, also agree. I spent a lot of time with hair, makeup, clothes and shoes. It is fun to dress up for dinner and my husband always looks terrific in his light weight long pants, attractive shirt and he wears decent sandals. I would feel weird all dressed up sitting across from a guy in shorts. Also, the atmosphere of those classy romantic restaurants would be compromised. It is not asking much of the guys to put on a casual light weight pair of pants and a comfortable shirt with a collar. Desire got it right with a very simple dress code.

Again thanks for all the info and ideas. Does the dress code apply to the classey restaurants only? What about the main buffet dining room? We may need to pack a little more stuff than we planed. Is the dress code for dinner only?

Hi Funtime,

Yes, the dress code is only for Suki (Japanese) and Piacere (The "White" restaurant). There is no dress code for the lunchtime buffet by the pool, other than to wear SOMETHING,( i.e - A coverup for the ladies and a pair of shorts for the guys.) but that is mostly for common courtesy to those around you.
