Tea bags

Postby oldseadog » Sun Nov 23, 2014 11:20 am

I have looked on the Mexican Customs web site and not found an answer.
Does anyone know if there would be a problem at the airport if we brought our own tea bags into Mexico? I know we would have to declare them as "food" but would they be confiscated or would we have to pay a lot of tax?
And before anyone tells us about the tea at Desire, we will be touring around for a couple of weeks before we get to Desire and fancy that some of the smaller local hotels might not have what Herself likes.

Don't worry about it. "Food" is fresh meat, dairy etc. We always take biscuits, crisps etc. We never declare them, and we have been "re-lighted" and had our bags searched, with no problems. Teabags won't be an issue. Although they do have Liptons and English Breakfast tea at both Desire RM & Pearl the biggest problem is getting them to make it with boiling, not just hot, water.

Thanks for the reply. We'll give it a go.
In small, country hotels and B & Bs we find it easier to ask for an electric kettle and do the boiling ourselves.
But at RM a word with Edilberto usually does the trick.

Ok, I gotta admit that when I clicked on this thread, I wasn't expecting the question to ACTUALLY be about TEA BAGS!!
See what Desire has done to my previously normal mind??

Just a quick comment... if you do get the red light and they open your bags, it is easist if the food product is in a sealed, un-opened package.

Thanks, good point.

OK, what DID you think it was about?
And no-one with a "normal" mind would go to Desire to start with. Desire has just enhanced what was there before.

Englishmen and tea :) !!!
Sorry oldseadog, I just couldn't resist! My husband, also English, has strong words about the tea offerings and not just at Desire. I keep a tiny container with three or four teabags in my purse so that everyone is happy when we eat out. Our daughter always takes a sealed plastic bag containing tea bags from 2 or 3 boxes of Red Rose tea with her to her home in Mexico City. She's never had any problems with customs. You should be all right.

I was thinking the same thing luv4life! Thought I was going to hear about a new sexy game everyone was playing, or maybe a new type of body shot, etc.

On that note I can't wait to to get my tea bag through customs and dipped in to the hot jacuzzi water at Desire! :D
