Is 12 nights too long?

We are booked into Pearl in May and are really looking forward to it. It'll be our first trip and the nerves are already creeping in.

Looking at lots of previous posts it appears that most couples are at Pearl for less than one week, but we will be there for a full 12 nights. So, are 12 nights too long and will there be enough variety to keep us interested and entertained.

We've also noticed that almost everyone comes from east of the Atlantic Ocean. Is this really the case or are there more visitors than I'm perceiving from other areas of the globe.

Looking forward to a couple of weeks of variety and fun.

It really depends on the week as to the mix of who may be at the resort when you are - in general, yes the majority will be from the "americas" however there is usually also a percentage of globe trotters in attendance.

One year just after the the original Desire opened in 2003 we met a couple from Australia that where booked in for a solid 3 weeks (21 days) before they then moved to their next holiday destination in Florida - lol

So I guess it depend on your personality, certainly staying that long you will get to meet a far larger group of guests than those that just book for 5 to 7 nights.

You may want to consider splitting your trip between Desire Pearl and Desire Riviera Maya and thus get the best that both have to offer !

Cokemann beat me too it. I'd definitely look at splitting your 12 days between the two Desire resorts - two vacations in 1! 8 nights at Pearl was maybe one or two too many, but with their "buy 3 get one free" deal, that's how it worked out. By the end, we were getting a little bored with the food... to be honest.

So, before I say this...I have to say we love Desire, it's our favorite destination. But, for us, it's a little small (3 restaturants, 88 rooms) for 12 nights. If we had 12 nights, we'd break it up. Definitely between the 2 properties, maybe even Temptations just to see what it was like. Or a vanilla destination with some watersports to start. 5 nights (maybe 6) seems to be optimal for us at Pearl based on the size, food, etc.

7 to 8 nights are it for us. The food menu doesn't change all that much.
Maybe if we split time between RM and Pearl it might be ok.

I will take the other side of this one. We spent 14 nights at Pearl back in early December and absolutely loved it. Over that time span the crowd changed over between two and three times so there were always new people to meet. The entertainment staff were amazing and every day was treasured.

A couple of years ago we did a week at Pearl and then a week at RM. The only problem was that we would have gone back to Pearl in a heart beat if that had been a simple option.

We have been to Hedo 14 times with our longest stay 18 days so we definitely are able to hunker down and appreciate a long stay. That may not be for everyone though.

As always the most accurate answer is that it depends. It depends on why you are there and what you like to do. We are early risers and I join the beach volleyball game every day, get to the gym now and then, and participate in the pool games. The daytime activities at Pearl are terrific but the trade off is that things are quieter at night. You will meet some great people at either resort.

We are trying to organize our next trip and Pearl is at the top of the list. There are things about Temptations that we actually liked and we could also go back to RM but the combination of the service quality, entertainment staff, hot tub, and amenities makes Pearl our favorite.

I am sure that no matter what you choose that you will have a great trip.

Well, we are already all booked up. Personally, we're not too concerned re staying in one place for that long, We are the sort that will enjoy both the fun and the relaxation. Re food, I'm sure that the restaurants across 12 nights will mean that each would only have to offer 4 different evening meals, which I'm sure they do, so repetition shouldn't be an issue.

Caz is starting to look for outfits, and our excitement is growing. Around 3 months to go, can't wait to get there. Roll on May.

Over our many trips to various C/O properties, most recently Desire for the last 8 years, we've found that 10 days/9 nights works for us. Shorter isn't enough, and a bit longer begins to be too much. Works for us, but as would be obvious, everyone's different for any number of reasons

We did 12 days last March, 6 at RM to start then went to Pearl for 6 more. We really enjoyed our time in paradise and it seriously felt like two different vacations due to switching properties mid way through our time. We have settled into a routine of 9 days and that is perfect for us....

We are doing our first trip to RM in March for 14 nights. I am sure we will take a break from the late night activities once or twice. We have been to a few resorts for 2 weeks and found after 11 or 12 days we were ready to go home and did couples swept away in Negril for 2 weeks and could have stayed longer. I think we will meet more people at RM in the first 3 days than we did at swept away in 2 weeks. We are really looking forward to meeting new people and getting out of the comfort zone. We have found 1 week just too rushed and the cost of the second week is so much cheaper that is worth it for us to stay for the 2 weeks. 5 weeks from today!!!

We have done some long stays at both resorts. There is an extended menu at all the restaurants (but you need to ask and this is not the extra cost menu which is another paid option). We also didn't have much problem getting food made to order that wasn't on the menu as my wife's on a special diet. You can also escape to visit the local area on day trips like the Sailing trip, Diving / Snorkeling (Both cloth optional, but be warned of "Butt Burn" if snorkeling for long periods even when cloudy). We did a "Dolphin Trainer for a Day" with a group of Desire guests (not normally cloths optional so you need to insure all swimwear is secured before the dolphins start pushing you around).

We have done the last 9 Christmas vacations for 12 nights at Desire RM. We rarely leave the resort except for 2013 when they drained the pool and we opted to spend the days the pool was down @ The Pearl.

When Desire Los Cabos was open we did at least 5 - 10 day stints and every 5-7 day Desire type takeover until it closed in October of 2012.

Those short 5-7 day trips were just that, to short!

There are several of our friend from Europe that stay for extended periods at both RM and The Pearl because of the long flights.

All & all you will not be bored with the food or the activities and when you do have to come home you will be sad.

This April we are doing a short visit to The Pearl of only eight days.

Oh, and sense we moved from California to the Virgin Islands I no longer dread going home!!!!
