Very poor review of Pearl on Trip Advisor

Re the review - now, if that really was the way they experienced DP, sounds like they didn't have a great time. I wonder if that's really true about the pool loungers. For members only?????????

Miranda, we've been to Pearl once, as non-members, and got great seats by the pool each day. We went down in the morning before breakfast and chose our seats from those which hadn't yet been reserved...no problems!

K&RinTX - we,too, have been to Pearl once before, as non-members, that was a couple of years ago. Never had a problem getting a pool loungers at the far, quiet end. But now, with this review, wondering if this is a new system re the loungers only for members. Having said that, we are not early risers nor are we lounge savers but have never, in all our trips to all the Desire resorts, had an issue about getting a lounge chair - pool or beach.

We were there last month for ISM, lots of guests at the resort, but always open lounge beds and chairs available. Yes, at the noisy end of the pool where all the games and action took place, the loungers were reserved early, but elsewhere there were places to sunbath. We actually prefer the beach or quiet end of the pool.
Our only gripe is that too many guests are using the quiet end of the pool as the "smoking" area which is rude and disgusting. When we went for drinks at the bar, a guest stole our small bedside table to use for their cigars/ashtray. We actually moved to the beach to get away from the cigs and CIGARS. So icky! It's a shame since the quiet end of the pool is lovely with plenty of afternoon sunshine. XL

You cant please all the people who show up at Desire. Its a very specialized crowd that vacations here and finds it enjoyable.

While on the more subtle side of a conversation, one would prefer not to stoop to the level of whomever Mr. Elberta, Alabama is, but in this case, an exception might be warranted and I won't pretend to be accommodating. He missed his reservation at the Golden Corral trough. We've made many trips to both Desire resorts, as well as Hedo II which he/they apparently prefer, and there are simply no head to head comparisons when considering the differences in class of service and amenities between the two. Hedo has a trough. Desire has very fine dining and service by comparison. Lastly, on the "pitch" issue, if, and only if, one believes that a return or returns to Desire facilities are in their future, the package is a very good value and well worth the cost. Calling a spade black, the ability to enter into an agreement financially may have at least a little bit to do with the adverse opinion (s) voiced here. We enjoy the resort, staff, amenities, the variety of guests who are there at any given time, and always hate to leave, albeit noting that one has to leave in order to return. Everyone has their opinion, and are clearly and appropriately entitled to it. We just prefer not to see what we consider as "perhaps" adult bullying by someone who, with a little bit of careful research, should have known better. Best part of it all is, we were at Pearl when this individual was there and are very happy indeed that our path's did not cross.

After looking and TripAdvisor again, I noticed that someone has posted a poor review. The only thing with this one is that it doesn't even relate to Pearl, unless of course they are accepting kids

Just on a side note, what is meant by the title, "No longer a gem in SPI". What the hell is SPI?

Just flagged it as wrong resort. Also SPI is the abbreviation for South Padre Island, here in Texas - it would make sense that they would have travelled there as a family.

Also sent a message to the poster thru Trip Advisor that they reviewed the wrong resort. Hopefully, they will correct their error. Don't want any children around when this happens!!!

Got a private message from the poster on Trip Advisor - their reply was "Oh my goodness!! I apologize. I meant SPI Pearl resort. Let me figure out how to delete it!!" Problem solved on that one!!!
