Bugs - When to go,, when not to go?

I've heard bugs can be a problem. When is the best time to go to avoid them? What's the worst bug time?

I can only speak from our experience but my wife is a bug magnet and when we have been in May or June it hasn't been much of a problem, but when we were there last December she gotten hundreds of small bites !!! I dont know if it was a fluke but with the skimpy clothes she wore + the moderate temps the bugs were BRUTAL for her, (not so bad for me as I was more covered up and apparently, not as juicy ). And yes they did fog for bugs, every night.
I assume that the warmer it is , the more likely they have died off for the season.

Keep in mind the resort is in the middle of a swamp/bayou and it is impossible to avoid them all together.

The last few years we've gone in June and bugs were a big problem to us in the evening, even when the wind was blowing. Bug repellent helped fend off the bugs but it kind of kills the intimacy. I think some people are more susceptible to bug bites and it probably depends on how much it has rained as well.

There are different "biting" bugs at different locations and at different time of the day depending on weather conditions.

Here are some tips.

Taking Thiamine (vitamin B1) daily can be used as a systemic insect repellent (gives the skin a characteristic smell that biting insects avoid) - from 1st hand experience in our 16+ trips to Desire, this one has always worked pretty well for me.

Most biting insects are also repelled by the essential oils in fresh limes and lemons - this could also be the reason I don't get bitten often - like my screen name Cokewithlime - which is all I drink through the day before Jacuzzi time - lol

Some people say rubbing your skin with a Bounce dryer sheet or the Avon Skin So Soft solution works for them

Try to avoid walking on the grassy areas especially at and around sunrise and sunset.

Generally there are more bugs around just after it has rained - the rainiest month, historically, in the Cancun region is June.

We have gone different times of the year and rarely get any bites. Stay off of the sand and grass at night. Also, sitting at the bar at night, uncovered legs are often bitten. We too have always started taking b complex vitamins a couple of weeks before our stay and throughout our stay. We also use "Off" bug wipes at night if we are sitting around the bar. Desire is located in a marshy area so bugs are to be expected whether they fog for them or not.

we were there 6/12-6/19 and had no bug issues at all. Of course we were lucky to not have rain either.

Just returned yesterday and no problems with bugs at all. Did see a few rather large winged cockroaches walking around, but nothing that bites.

We were there from 6/20 to 6/26. Had lots of mosquitos at the lobby bar (we were there after 2 am to around 4:30am every night during our stay for an extended nightcap and of course BLT/Pizza) Bring the bug spray out at night...

Both prior trips in the last week of July/1st week of August without bugs. Both trips there were nice breezes (helps when hot...) so that may have helped. We're sticking with the same time frame this year and will hope for same luck. Woohooo!
