Hot Tub Water... how clean is it?

Ok... someone has to ask. Last year when we went to Pearl, the water in the hot tub near the bar was really disgusting. Scum floating on top and around the entire area around the bar. It was very noticeable in the late afternoon and hard to tell at night because it was dark. It really was gross and somewhat of a mood killer. Didn't really want to get in it. Please tell me it is much better now...

The funny side of this story was they must have put some chlorine in and around the seats (closer to the pool end and opposite of the bar). During the week we noticed several people (including yours truly) with a funny looking tile pattern on their backsides. The chemicals left a small mark on the arse after sitting on the chlorine covered bench in the hot tub. Made for a good checker board on my backside! Any ladies up for a game of checkers?

most of the "scum" is sunscreen, moisturizing lotion, booze, laundry detergent (from those wearing swim suites) and NOT from bodily fluids. Yes, there are some bodily fluids but not enough to worry about and the chemicals kill pretty much all that enters the water.

I have a very good understanding of how pools/jacuzzi s filter the water. I design plumbing and waste systems for a living. This includes pools, hot tubs and jacuzzi in places like the YMCA, Health clubs, Schools, Etc...The system at Pearl is very robust. I peeked into the filtration room and its better than average. They converted a pool that was in this area originally and upgraded the filtration system knowing what was going to happen in the new jacuzzi. They definitely did their homework.

I have also take care of hot tubs/Jacuzzis as an apartment manager (300+ residence) as well as a hot tub of my own in my own home. Its pretty common to see foam floating around when you factor in all the elements.
