Heating the pool

Postby Al & Kim » Sat Aug 29, 2015 12:01 pm

We were just at Pearl. They are putting up a wall in the pool to separate the quite end from the activities end. We were told that they are going to heat the activities end this winter. I have not seen this post anywhere and sorry if it has. This will be nice for Dec to March.
We were also told that in the next 18 months there will be Desire in Punta Cana Dominican Republic. I am not trying to start rumors. This was told to us by the front desk staff.

Probably another "fib" by the membership sales people - to get you to "buy in'

All the actual Desire staff know that they are not allowed to give out corporate info unless it has already been released by Original Resorts PR dept or they would lose their jobs for doing so.

Most Desirites, I would think, would be unhappy with a "divider" of any type in the jacuzzi.
I hope this is not happening.

Last week we saw some workers marking the pool and taking measurements on the quiet end just beyond the pool volleyball area not sure what they were up to but the measuring tapes were active.

Is there really a wall being constructed right now?

I don't think there is any construction right now. We were there last Saturday. I also can't see why they would ruin a great pool with a wall. Coke is probably right but it was weird for guys to be measuring the depth of the pool and to be making marks on the side. Maybe some other improvements are going to be done.
On a side note the glassed in lobby sure was nice as far as resort modifications go.

We just left on Thursday . They hauled in sandbags on Monday and Tuesday. They had two walls of sandbag in the narrow part just beyond the water volleyball net. Looked like they were going to drain the small area between the sandbags and build the wall there. All work is done at night. They start about 5 or 6 pm after the pool activities are over. It did not disrupt any activities on either end but you could not go from one end to the other without getting out of the pool. No big deal. It will be nice in the winter to have one end heated.
There is no construction at the Jacuzzi.
Love the air conditioned lobby.

Having done some construction in the past, this sound more like something called a coffer dam - ie you temporarily block off parts of a pool (without having to drain the pool) then drain inside the coffer dam so that you can get at the side walls and or base to install new plumbing lines. When that is completed the coffer dam is then removed.

Just a semi educated guess on my part, but time will tell :D

I was at Cabo way back when and although it was 80+ degrees outside the pool was barely pushing 70 degrees; the pool did not see a lot of action. I always though some solar heating panels would have been a nice addition for the winter months. Maybe that is where they are going with the plumbing, that would be awesome!

Here now (got here yesterday)and the pool is kind of a mess, the wall is poured and drying, looks like it is going to be water height like infinity wall along the beach side of pool. So if it's water level with a rounded top it shouldn't be to bad to get over... I hope, would suck if they separate the pool and you have to get out to go to the other end.
They also keep dropping the water level to do plumbing I think, they also refinished the seats at the bar while water was down. But today at one time the fun end was about 20 inches deep, but it really didn't slow many people down still lot of fun. Sunny Hot, humid as hell.

That's great for the winter guests but a major inconvenience for guests currently there or about to be there. Especially if there is only 20 inches of water in the fun side of the pool. If you can't go in the ocean because of weeds and then the pool only has 20 inches of water I sure hope the resort is doing something to compensate the guests.

Live update..... They work from 5 PM until around 11pm forms off and mortared the round top, came out a few inches higher then existing wall. Fun end of pool way down this morning, quite end all most up to normal but in changes all day.
Seaweed is soooo bad and smells pretty bad when you walk outside but kind of get use to it. Almost impossible to walk on the beach and the water is brown and nasty almost half way out the pier.
They also have ground dug up along the side walks coming from lobby but haven't heard what they are doing. Looks like working on underground pipes.
True first timer are not going to see the resort at its best, but everyone is taking it pretty well, and they have to keep making improvements.

Unbelievable news!!!!!!! That was my biggest concern when we booked our December vacation. Pearl will be the place to be for sure. Glad I decided not to try RM this time.
