We are here now. Seaweed on beach in front of Desire is very thick. Not fun to walk the beach.

We're going to be there in December, I sure hope they clean that mess up. Is there a reason why they can't use heavy machinery (bobcat) to clean it a couple times a day?

Yes... One reason is the seaweed is very heavy. We were there mid September and one day saw a heavy-duty front loader used to pile and scoop the seaweed. This operation took the better part of the morning, created a lot of diesel fumes and noise, and all the work was hardly noticable the next morning due to massive amounts of new seaweed washing ashore.

Javier explained that the Pto Morelos regulations restrict the type of machinery allowed on the beaches. The management of Desire takes this situation very seroiusly. Several beach rakers worked their butts off every single day hauling off as much as they could. As long as the epidemic of this seaweesd that is infesting most coastlines of the Caribbean continues, the resorts will struggle to keep their beach loving guests as happy as possible.

Hope this helps those who have not seen just how bad this situation is understand what a massive challenge Pearl faces.

This is disturbing :? 5 days after the pristine beach pix piled up again :?: Would be very interesting to get a handle on the tidal, wind, current effects...
