From recent trip reports the problem with the tiles breaking/coming off had gotten to a critical level, there is never a good time to schedule maintenance issues like this.
IMHO they probably chose to do it ASAP before someone got seriously hurt/cut in the jacuzzi because of broken sharp edge tiles - no real option ..........
Absolutely! I even stated this in my email to them. There is no good time to do a project like this, and no matter when they do it, guests are going to be negatively affected. But they need to also understand that they need to make up for the loss of a major amenity and draw to those affected guests. If they know their guests are disappointed or even angry, being a very expensive, luxury resort, they need to work to make those guests happy and have to know that a pass to RM is not going to do it. I would think quality management/ownership would never want to present an inferior product at any time; but if they have to, then they have to make the guests who are losing out just as happy as the guests who get the complete product. This should be a reduction of the per-day rate for the affected days. If that is not possible...which of course it is... then true, value-added services (room upgrades; massages; meal enhancements; etc) need to be offered so that these guests feel like they're getting something in return for losing something major. To not do any of these things risks alienating guests, losing their business, and motivating them to potentially write negative feedback on public sites and forums that could result in more lost business.
It's not an ideal situation for them or the guests at all. I just hope they practice good business practices and take care of the affected guests.
