Dinner Guests

We will be at Pearl next month (March) for 8 nights and are wondering about dining arrangements. We'd like to meet people for dinner, and wonder if we can ask to be seated with other guests, or if we can let the staff know we are open to others joining us? We know it's our own fault, but last time we stayed at RM, all meal were essentially by ourselves, and we'd like to try and change that while at Pearl. Guess we are too shy to strike up conversations

I have never seen that done at Pearl but maybe there is a first time for everything.

We also arrive in March so if you are still there we would be happy to join you for dinner that night (if you are not already swamped with new friends by then).

When we were at Pearl for two weeks in December we found that the crowd changed about twice per week. We would be doing dinner for twelve one night and then dining by ourselves a couple of days later. We actually had a similar experience to yours at RM a few years ago so I know exactly what you are referring to. It shouldn't be that way, it doesn't have to be that way, but sometimes all you need to do is meet just one new couple during your trip who introduce you to a few other people and your entire experience changes completely.

It would actually be nice if the resort set up a large table in the middle of Aphrodite during dinner in the evenings so that those who didn't already have dining plans could have the option of joining in.

We, too, are much like you. Not always easy to connect people during our trips to either Desire and most often dine alone.

We tend to eat later, which doesn't always work for others who like to eat earlier. Lots of people have already made their connections and leave no room for more, or it could be their last night with the couples they have connected with and they want to spend it with their connections, etc, etc. Lots of different scenarios

On our trips to Cabo, they had a long table in the middle of the Japanese restaurant and were seated next to people who had already made connections with others so again, we were the odd couple out, although the guests next to us might say hi to us, that's about as far as it goes.

We think it could be a great idea that you tell the seating host that you are open to having others' seated with you but then again, you run the risk of the 'others' who may feel uncomfortable if they prefer to dine alone or have made prior arrangements with others who haven't arrived yet when they decline the offer.

Having said that, as you may have read many times on the board, Desire people can be some of the easiest people to meet and connect with.

Introverted people like us just need to put ourselves out there if we want to make any connections.

Its not that hard to find dinner guests. Usually after meeting at the pool or later in the jacuzzi the conversation will eventually get to "lets grab dinner" if there is a vibe between you.

Telling the staff you're open to others joining wouldn't really get you far... I don't think they'd ever do anything with that request. I don't think they'd want to determine if a couple might be someone you'd enjoy talking to.

That being said... We got dinner with a new couple each night. What it takes is exactly what you said... Just a little conversation. Around the pool or bar or what have you. Don't forget, by and large, most people at Desire would love to have some different conversation with folks over dinner.

We are going to Pearl in August, after spending four nights at the other Desire resort. I personally would love to dine as groups or with other couples, if my lover and I wish to be alone, we can dine in our room or have breakfast and lunch together...we chose these properties on purpose, for the potential for connections made, as friends and possibly more. It's integral for us to stay open, and dinner with new people is a great, low-pressure way to see if there's any common connection points. When the meal is over, you can decide to part ways or meet up again. Just my two cents...saying hi is harmless, and necessary:) I guess I'll be saying that word frequently over eight days, even though we tend to be more introverted, too..to a point!!!

Do understand that some people can be shy but even so it is not hard to say "Hi" with a smile to someone you don't know yet. We have found that just this simple act has lead to meeting some wonderful people. We also had another couple on our first visit to make dinner reservations for four instead of just the two of you. Most tables seat at least that many so it is not an issue. That way if you do meet people during the day, it is easy to invite them to join you for dinner if there is a desire to spend more time together.

We are in the same boat as you! We are a little shy at first, too...and we love to chat with people over dinner!

The great news is that we are there for the exact same 8 nights as you...we would love to meet up for dinner whenever you like! We may be there too late to find you on the 12th...we will need to eat something that night but we probably won't arrive until around 9:30...hopefully some snacks will still be available...we'll probably be hungry. Any night after that we would love to have dinner together! You will be able to find us quite easily...I am about 5'10", so I'll probably be the tallest "girl" in the place. My hubby is about the same height as me...but he most likely won't be wearing heals. He has dark hair and is very handsome! (Well, I may be a little biased!)

We're so excited that we will be at Pearl in only 12 more days! Can't wait!!

We are looking forward to a dinner date, don;t worry about the the evening of the 12th, we'll have lots of other nights to choose from We arrive mid afternoon the 12th, and hopefully we'll find each other. We are a little older than you both, Rick has salt/pepper hair, and Sky more blonde. We plan to try and introduce ourselves to everyone that is willing to put up with our saying hi, so let us know when you hear our name

Yeah meeting people for dinner in this environment seems so nice. Would love to be part of a fun dinner party just to talk. To hear funny stories and learn from others. Even if it doesn't go farther than dinner just to have some good times and have new friends to dance with at the club. If it goes farther great. If not no big deal.
