Mosquitoes and Zika Problem

We are planning a return visit but wife is a little apprehensive going with musquitoes and Zika problem knowing the last time we were there, the pond outside the lobby was a mosquitoes breeding ground. We know the lobby has since been enclosed and now with A/C, but is the pond still there and what is the mosquitoes situation at Pearl?

Is you wife pregnant? Or planning to get pregnant while at Desire or in the 2-3 months after your visit?

If you answered no - then what's the worry? Zika is one of those things that most people who get it - think they have a mild case of food poisoning and within 2-3 days most symptoms have passed and in a week it's gone... and the great thing is... once exposed you'll never get it again.

Both of us have had it (South East Asia 15 years ago) so we aren't worried about it at all.

We've bought a spray from hotel shop for about 10 bucks, applied it 2-3 times a day, never had a bite.

Thanks for your replies. Wife isn't concerned with pregnancy, more like getting bites and contracting ZIKA. We're way over that stage as kids are grown up. Just wondering if mosquitoes are a problem and whether Pearl ever filled in that useless pond and made it into a nice seating area.

We have taken Deet towelettes in the past (prior to lobby enclosure) just in case. Easy since non-liquid for plane travel. I think it was 2 years ago they drained the pond and cleaned it up. Same time they enclosed the lobby. Mosquitos not a problem following that. Mosquitos also hate breezes so anywhere close to the Gulf is probably OK
