Add us to the list. The wife had two pieces of jewelry stolen (25th and 30th anniversary gifts) the night before we departed last January. Had an early departure and didn't want to pack in the morning. We didn't discover it until we got home, so didn't report it to the resort. It hasn't deterred us from going back, we are just more cautious and don't bring anything of value.

Put the invisible powder on an on an empty jewelry bag stuff with paper or cheap plastic or beaded necklace and cheap rings inside a jewelry box (where no one should be going except the owner), on or inside an empty wallet or cheap purse in a plastic bag in your luggage (where no one else should be going), on the key pad and handle of your safe. These thieves may also be the beverage guys that go to each room to fill the fridges and new water. Just take some rubber gloves when handling the objects (key pad, jewelry box, wallet) and get it 'caught on camera'.

One could perhaps get a reward vacation at Desire for turning the video over to management and not U tube on the thefts at Desire resorts.

We are sorry for everyone that has items stolen from their room and can understand how violating that must feel.

But at the same time, we also wanted to to share the honesty and kindness we have personally experienced. Basically, we (and this is both of us) are a sh*t show during our 3 day benders at Desire. Bouncing from one place to another every 15 minutes, meeting people all over the resort, drinking, swimming, playing... while forgetting nearly everything we own just about everywhere! In the morning it is customary for us to do our daily walk-of-shame to the lobby to recover the belongings we had scattered around the property the day before. Our lost items have included flip-flops, sunglasses, wallet with cash and credit cards, room keys, purse, more credit cards, bags, sunscreen, cell phones and panties. In every case - well, except the panties... no clue where Mrs.NakedGolf lost those ;) all of our items have been ready and waiting for us in the lost and found. Not once have we not had something returned to us, so we know that the employees and guests at our resort and the most trustworthy and honest people in the world and we feel privileged to be a part of their family.

When we were there in June of 2016, some acquaintances of ours had their cash stolen out of their room. It was later found that two staff personnel walked to the room and "posed" as a greeting staff member. They carried a bottle of champagne and offered it as a "welcome" to the resort gift. One guy was the main person and the other person was the look out. Our friends believed that they were "fishing" to see if anyone was in the room. They seemed awkward once contact was made and our friends felt that something was not right. They reported it immediately to the management. The management acknowledged that no one was given permission to present a bottle of champagne to the guest of a room later in the evening. Be warned. NEVER.. NEVER.. NEVER lock your money in the safe. We took nearly $900 cash with us. We kept it on our person the whole time. Our experience was fine but our friends kept their money in some shorts. Their money was stolen. The only was to combat thieves is to keep your money close by at all times. It's up to you where you keep it. We have our " hiding spot" so message us if you're curious what worked for us.

One incident was a baited envelope with a large dollar figure on it, but had a Canadian $2 bill (no longer made) in it. Sure enough, the baited envelope was taken in the break in. The following day, I was in the local small grocery store in uniform and noticed the cashier had purple hands. I asked her if she cashed any $2 bills today and she told my she cashed one from name (a local petty thief and B&E artist). I seized the bill (same ser. number) and went to (name) house and he had purple hands as well. It's called 'follow the money' and pay the price. I never did tell the cashier anything about her purple hands. My powder will be on my next trip to Desire with my trail cam.

Thanks for taking the time to post this, TC. Interesting tactic these guys use(d) here, frankly it fits the M.O. of what some of us suspected has been going on perfectly.
It would be interesting to know the haul in cash, jewelry, glasses, electronics, etc. that has been pilfered over, say, the last year. I think it's safe to say the number would be staggering.
And to think that the majority of us simply wanted to share the love with much-deserving staff. Ironic to say the least.

Just google 'spy shop invisible powder' and most of them have it. I just check 'Cheater Spy Shop invisible powder' and it was there. Just depending the country you are ordering online. There are two types of powders. The one is as I mentioned in a number of colours which turns colour with moisture. The power itself is grey and once spread or shaken up on material, you can't see it and it doesn't take much each use. The other powder is use for different criminals, crimes and detection. It is ultra violet powder that can only be seen using an UV light. It is used to follow the culprit by placing some on the floor inside the doorway on some cardboard and on the door handle. once the criminal opens the door and steps on the cardboard, the investigator can follow his footprints and whatever he touched. His hands and shoes can be detected only under UV light. A long with camera use the criminal is tracked down and verified that they have UV powder on their hands and feet.
Use the first powder that changes colour. I like the 'red' colour. Its like catch them 'red handed'. One of my wife's employee's that had sticky fingers went for the baited envelope. After lunch, he was off sick for the remaining of the week. Seen him at a local store shopping with 'red hands'. But he wasn't smart enough to stop stealing. I powdered a lock key pad to a restricted room and left a wrong code written on a desk. He came back early from lunch and tried the key pad code. He took some vacation time off with red finger tips. Solved the thief issue. Because it is a unionized work place and the sensitivity of upper management, no one knew what really happened other than the thief with his 'red hands' and myself.

If Desire Resort was concerned about the problem that could affect their business, they should do a few stings and not only get rid of the bad apples, but send a message to the others to keep their fingers clean and out of things that they shouldn't be in.

Got our Milockie gizmo...it wasn't cheap at about $100, but last years losses would've paid for it...looks like a nice little lock. It affixes right on the hotel safe.
It isn't as big as the pics make it appear. :)
We'll include a quick review in our trip report.

the mylockie thing looks great. but i can't see how it works? the strap goes inside and then the outside part pulls the door shut? great suggestion. i travel a lot and always with a laptop.

we've been going for years and haven't lost a thing. plus security at both hotels is awesome, so this is really surprising.

This is our first trip to Pearl and things getting stolen is a little worrisome. I have seen where money, jewelry and electronics have been taken are your passports and others papers safe? We may have to get a Milockie!

The milockie will not prevent a breakin, nothing will totally prevent a thief from getting into your safe. What it does do is warn the otherwise-honest hotel employee that you are serious about locking your safe. I put the milockie on as soon as I get to the room, then take a picture of it on the safe and take the picture down to the desk to show them I have it installed. It will make your case stronger if you later report a theft. But I believe with the milockie on they will leave it alone. They want to find a safe they can open, take a little out, and close it without it being noticed they were in there. Then its just your word that something is missing.
