I know that this is an older thread but yesterday I got a e-mail from daily deal where they were offering suitcase lock. You know the kind, it's about the size of a key and fits around the suitcase latches stopping the latches from opening. Most people unpack their bags when they check in, so just put your tablet, passports, ect. in your bag lock it and set it in the closet. It would take a determined thief sometime to look for your bags and attempt to open it. Of course you put a small amount of cash, and cheap jewelry in the room safe to let them find. A item that can be used for different things plus it's cheaper then the safe locks that they sell and most suitcases have them so it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb.

We just returned from yet another great trip from Desire RM. Great weather and even better company as usual. However, we return with two complaints:

1) Going into this years trip, we heard of guests having money stolen while they are there. This happened again while we were there. Not to us, but to some great people we met there. Not cool. Most of the time the money stolen is solely for giving out as tips for the staff. When this cash goes missing, the good staff doesn't receive the gifts of money that they deserve and that is sad.
2) The new neighbors of Desire, Breathless resort, are seemingly those nosy neighbors in the neighborhood that you don't really like. What I mean is that they are not willing to stay at Desire like we all do but are willing to be gawker walkers trying to sneak a peek walking by to get a glimpse of a lifestyle they are either to afraid to venture into or too ignorant to understand. They were almost putting nose prints on the glass by the pool during the foam party(and I mean they literally that close). Later that same day, there were two guys that made it all the way to the hot tub!

Neither of these things will keep us from returning to a place we love so much, but Desire needs to step up the security and resolve these issues REAL QUICK or someone is either going to lose a temper or worse like a passerby splatters pictures all over the internet. We pay premium prices to stay at a place like this for a reason. Please spend some of that money beefing up the security and finding a remedy to these issues.

We hear you CoconKitty. It is frustrating when we all have been enjoying the quant resort of the past to now being apparently swarmed by the resort guests from next door. I would be more than glad to lend some of my law enforcement background to 'manage' those losers that get past the security and into the resort. It is a huge breach of our privacy and no different than walking into my home or hotel room I have paid for and they haven't and specifically go looking for intimate situations. These guys would be waking up in a whole different location and that could be to the north of Desire and about 150 ft. up in the center of the vacant lot where the perverts can wake up to a croc sizing them up for lunch or on the beach in front of their resort with no clothes on. Everyone needs to be more vigilant with watching for the bracelets and reports intruders.

If anyone see a prev walking the beach with their cell or camera's out and taking pics in front of Desire. Ask him if he wants some really good pics from the 'inside'. Take his cell or camera into the pool for a swim and a soak. Pull the card out. After about an hr. of soaking and the impatient perv waiting, hand him back his camera or cell and tell him you couldn't get it to work in the pool. I caught a perv years ago when cell phones first had the camera built in at Haulover Beach N Miami taking pics on his cell camera. I approached him and asked if he wanted some really good pictures of my wife. He handed me his cell phone and it was quickly airborne about 100 ft into the ocean. Several watched this and got the thumbs up. He wasn't keen on messing with (6'5") me and left the beach.

As far as the missing money or jewelry from the rooms, the invisible theft powder and the trail cam are already packed.

We are beach people and in all honesty beach traffic was not all that much more than in previous trips but the level of Desire security on the beach was definitely higher on the recent trips. Additionally we have never heard any noise/music at any time of day or night coming from Breathless, even right at the southern edge of the Desire property that borders the Breathless property.

We are beach people and in all honesty beach traffic was not all that much more than in previous trips but the level of Desire security on the beach was definitely higher on the recent trips. Additionally we have never heard any noise/music at any time of day or night coming from Breathless, even right at the southern edge of the Desire property that borders the Breathless property.

This was our experience as well in two visits, Breathless was a total non factor. Also we stayed one night at Breathless before our last trip and no one even mentioned Desire to us. While we were there it was actually pretty tame, definitely not a spring break type of environment.

We were at DRM at the beginning of December and rarely saw anyone walking the beach in front of DRM.

We like to walk the beach so we walked past Breathless a couple of times (man, it's a HUGE resort!) and it looked pretty lame (in terms of a party atmosphere) but that pool that has a glass wall is kinda cool. Wouldn't that be a fun feature for a Desire Resort to have??

We've been 4 times in 2016 for about 30 days total and really didn't notice much of difference in beach traffic. IMO it doesn't seem to be worth having fantasies about violent confrontations over.

The beach issue is really a non issue in our book , we were there in June and December, as stated above.

Having been the one who's booked our trips when family has wanted to travel with us, I can tell you it's an issue that pops up periodically at all resorts throughout the Riviera Maya, and the Caribbean. I've read more than my share of trip reports on way too many resorts, and it's one thing they all have on common. The problem will flare up for a week or so, and then not again for a year or two...or more.

On our last trip I took the locking bank bag I had ordered and kept all our cash in it, inside the room safe. Each time I put it back in the safe I positioned it a certain way so that it looked like any other bag, you couldn't even tell it had a lock until you took it out. As far as I could tell, it was never touched.

Not exactly sure when Breathless first opened, but we were at DRM in August, November, and December and Breathless was a non-issue. Since there were always curious people walking the beach, there was always the risk of covert photo taking but we've never heard of anyone finding the pics online. (Sure those gawkers might brag with their pics to friends about what was nextdoor or right down the beach.) Just as much or more risk of Desire guests sneaking pics with the phone or tablet.

Our only visit to RM was about midway through construction of Breathless, just the construction guys over there. One day we were laying by the pool and a DRONE appeared and hovered over the beach area for about 15 seconds, then streaked back in the direction of Breathless and was out of sight. It happened so quickly several people around us never even noticed, and we never had it happen again or knew exactly where it came from.

I was really concerned with our last trip about Breathless making our favorite resort less enjoyable, but it was pretty much a non factor. The security has increased A TON! There was a few guys walking in front of the beach beds and security noticed he had a camera out, didn't seem to be taking pics, but security was all over it and immediately made him put it away. Another day there were 3 people who were clearly from Breathless standing in the water in front of the volleyball courts looking up to the jacuzzi and again security made them leave. They looked over at us pissed because we were staying and security told them we were guests and pointed out our bands. The only thing we had was during the foam party a couple came over and took the LAST two beds by the pool. They were not bothering anyone but was clear they were not guests. I normally wouldn't have been irritated but dangit those were the last beds, and we had slept in that day. Out of 5 trips we had just as much fun as we always have, and will be back in a few months!

Also we have never had anything stolen *knock on wood* and always travel with cash for tipping. I do leave all personal jewelry at home and do not take designer heels.

We love Desire and are planning our 6th trip this April. However, on our last trip over the 4th of July 2016, we ran into a big issue. There was a much larger number of people stopping and spending time in the water than in past years. We have always seen the couple here or there that stop and take a quick naked plunge, I have no issue with that at all. What I take issue with is when a group of people, in this case a group of women, took their tops off and were loud obnoxious and hung around for over an hour. Hotel security was there but they couldn't do anything. Groups of overly intoxicated young men kept walking up and down, gawking and generally lingering a little too long. Once again security was right there but they couldn't do anything about it. Those type of issues turn us off but we can live with it. What really got our goat was when we were up at the jacuzzi bar one night. It wasn't overly busy and I would guess it was around 7:30 or 8:00. These two guys come up to the bar, no bracelet no wives or girl friends. My wife immediately asks them "were is your bracelet?" The punk, one of the same ones we saw multiple times on the beach earlier that day was all like, "I forgot it in my room, do you want me to go back and get it." My wife who is all of 5'3" and 120 pounds soaking wet got right in their face and told them to leave or she was going to call security. They left without incident and we told the bartender to let security know. To me this is unacceptable, that should never happen. There was a woman in her mid twenties who was up there also, no bracelet, she claimed she was waiting for her room and that she had just transferred from Desire Pearl. We felt that she was another treaspasser but lets face it, who is going to get upset about there being an extra woman around. All in all I think Desire security needs to step it up, there should be someone posted at the bottom of the stairs and better security on the beach after dark.
