If you had gotten one of the special promo deals for your original booking I doubt that they would honor the original price to add on one extra night either ahead or when you are at the resort. So expect to pay the current going regular per night room charge for any extra nights at any point in time ( btw- they might not have rooms available in the room category you originally booked for, so if you wanted an extra night you might end up paying more for a higher room category.)

Thanks for the quick reply. We have a cheap room in Puerto Morelos booked before we arrive at Pearl, and I was thinking about adding a night. It's probably not worth the rack rate they have listed, though. (to us at least)

Once at DP, you may negotiate with them a nice rate, if they have rooms available. Don't show very much interest, just ask: What if we decide stay one more night? Otherwise, they will allow stay until 6PM with no charges, then you may spend the night at your P. Morelos hotel.

The one time I was at the resort and went to talk to them about an additional night, they stonewalled and said they would absolutely not allow a one-night booking (it was a holiday and high-occupancy), so I went on online and booked with a coupon for less- their loss! One thing to note is that while the resort won't directly book just one night, most online travel agencies will do so and the resort honors those bookings. It's quite likely the resort will change your room if this happens; just pack up your bags and they'll move them to your new room during the day.

Two options I'll suggest:

1) If there's still availability, see if you can make a new booking for the total dates you want and cancel the old one after you secure the new one. This allows you to use any booking channel you want and keep your room the whole time.
2) Use a travel agency to book a single night.
